NW-A608

Question

I recently broke my NW-E407 (before that I’d had two NW-MS77 and one NW-MS70), which I thought was wonderful and did everything I wanted it to, but because something that seemed better was available, I choose to upgrade to an a NW-A608, purely on the fact that it had the extra gig . . .

But too my shock it seemed that with this new player Sony have scrapped the ideas of groups and gone towards the idea of albums - which is fine - if they would let me order them myself which I cant, as most of you no doubt know, it orders them alphabetically by album name - which is just annoying.

So today I had lots of attempts to try and get it to do groups but to no avail; the two attempts I tried were:

- Converting a group (in SS) to a playlist on the player - was unable to do this, does anyone know how?

- Downgrading my firmware to an NW-E507 - this didn’t seem to work despite Sony's firmware app uploading the old firmware, or seeming to, to the player the only difference was the fact that I lost intelligent shuffle (after going back to the NW-A608 1.01 firmware I still cant get intelligent shuffle back)

So my four main questions are;

- Groups on the '608; possible?

- Converting groups to Playlists on SS?

- Is it possible to downgrade the firmware on the '608 to a model which supports groups?

- Any reason why after going back to the original firmware the player won’t do intelligent shuffle?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me,

Andy Jones

Hmm interesting.

First off welcome. Next, I am curious to why you haven't tried the connect player?

Intelligent shuffle only works with the new Connect player software and not with SS. Intelligent shuffle needs the connect player to function correctly.

The reason thereis no groups on the 608 is because the connect player software doesn't have groups in it, only albums and genres as well. Of course you can organize by artist or song name, but that is not what you are asking.

I've imported 3 cds into my A3000 using CP, all ID tagged using winamp and all transfered in order as they are on the PC.

Playlists can be made in CP quite easily and then transferred to the player which will play the songs in order as you had them in the playlist. Not sure you can convert groups to playlists, but you could drag all the songs in the group and make a playlist out of them.

Not possible to downgrade to support groups.

Hi,

Yeh, I tried the Connect Player but I didn’t find it that much of an improvement and it annoyed me that it didn’t import my SS library from the start (I didn’t do a full machine search because not all of the tracks that are on my machine I wanted imported into my library for the player), the same with Connect as with SS;

All albums get grouped by artist (which is sorted alphabetically) and then all albums within the artist group get sorted alphabetically, which isn’t the order I want them in. And then on the player when I go to "All Song" it shows all of the albums in alphabetically order disregarding the artist, and I have found no way to order the albums. So do we assume that it is not possible to order groups/albums on the player as with older models?

Thank you for your quick and insightful answer,

Andy Jones

Hi,

I’m not quite sure if my original post made it overly clear what I ACTUALLY want to do; On my old player I would put all my albums onto the player and then go to "All Songs" and then listen and let it change from group to group (or I would skip to a specific group and then listen from then onwards) in the same order that I placed them on the player. But, with the NW-A608 if I go to all tracks the albums are ordered by name, it is this that I want to change - if possible.

Sorry, I have seen a 20 page manual. I’ve got a quick start guide and 92 Page "Hardware Operation Guide" which I had to install, beyond that I don’t have any other kind of documentation.

Andy
