Domser
I was wondering it the codecs had been revamped for the new models -is there a difference between the codecin generation 1 and 2 HiMD devices?yours,Domser

greenmachine
I don't think this specific question is covered in the faq yet neither can i find tons of topics or any other detailed answer. The question remains.
LupinIV
This may be hard to figure out.....Has any audio test being performed by those that own both generation Hi-MD?I guess it may be difficult because the circuitry of the new generation may also be different in terms of audio reproduction.Which models would you use for the comparison? They shoud both have the same input/output characteristics including digital amp, etc.A good approach could be by using a optical-in on both, then playback both recording on 1st and 2nd generation to compare any difference.Cheers Edited November 26, 2005 by LupinIV
dex Otaku
I have done some tests comparing the RH10 to the NH700 - however, the RH10 has a digital amp, the NH700 is standard analogue, so the comparison can not be as direct as would be required to actually test the codecs. greenmachine
You could upload the hardware encoded files to the 'puter and compare them there.
dex Otaku
If I had a device with SP/DIF optical out, I could make a fair comparison. As I don't, all I would be comparing is the input preamps of the two units.
greenmachine
True. It would be very hard to abx at 256 kbps anyway. I'm pretty satisfied with 1st gen encodings.
Domser
Strange "normal" Atrac was upgraded over the years, even the Atrac codec used in Sonicstage software got upgraded. Remember the quality on the first versions of Sonicstage?I wonder why there is no info about this anywhere. yours, D.
