Recovering "BLANK" and "ERROR" discs -- MZ-NE410

I lost the data of 2 discs. After inserting in my MZ-NE410, one said "BLANK" to me (5 albuns disappeared!) and another laugh and screamed "ERROR". So, with 2 bad discs on my hands, I walked through minidisc.org foruns. I´ve noticed about the famous "ribbon cable", and the possibility of open my unit was terrifying me even more each minute. But, after about half an hour, my discs were in a perfect state. The only defect of technique: NO DATA RECOVERY. To me and another people that use MD as a portable player of physical CD albuns, it´s not a disaster.

In fact, nothing new about the following procedures. I just compiled esparse information in only one post.

So, let´s go

First, upgrade SonicStage to 3.3 immediately if you´re using an older version. Here

For "BLANK" discs:

1) Insert in your unit;

2) Access using MD Simple Burner 2.0;

3) In "Config", ask to format the disc;

4) Done

For "ERROR" Disks

1) Refer to the Service Manual of MZ-NE-410. Here

2) Enter Service Mode (AT YOU OWN RISK, OBVIOUSLY):

- Set HOLD (On)

- While pressing (ENT) key, press: VOL+, VOL+, VOL-, VOL-, VOL+, VOL-, VOL+, VOL-, GROUP, GROUP

3) - access [AUTOCOM 500] using (vol +), enter using (play).

- access [510 ACCESS] using (play).

- starting at [511 xxSCC], move to [518 xxS03] using (>).

- change S03 to S00 using (vol +/-), so the value reads [518 xxS00].

- press (stop) to execute.

- disc mechanism should be heard rattling.

- exit service mode by removing power.

See? Nothing new, just joined, And a reasonable try before open your unit.

hey, im kind of an idiot when it comes to these md players. but just about 10 minutes ago my md player was recording an MD and it beeped at me and said "ERROR" on the screen, now when i put this disc into it, it says "error" the time, im kinda pissed off now cuz this is the only MD i have and i need it for tommorrow, so if anyone mainly you dperezv, could help me, it would be so great. thanks a lot. im unsure of the service mode thing, thats all.

first: do you need any data that have been recorded? if you want to recover data from this disc, forget about the method I posted. sorry, but i´m just talking about formating, not recovering data from discs. search the forum, many people talk about TOC cloning and stuff, may help if you want to recover the data.

"f**k the data, i just wanna a working disc": in this case, you must first upgrade to SonicStage 3.3, and try to format using the software formating utility.

failed? refer to the service manual of your unit. i couldn't find it at the minidisc.org forums. so, you must search at google as "YOUR UNIT MODEL, service manual". using this manual, you may able to access the service mode of your unit (at your own risk... but formatting discs is safe, if you don't make anything else...). after this, please follow the instructions that i posted. voila.

you REALLY can trust the service mode. it's safe, if you just follow the instructions and DO NOT make anything else than format the disc using the instructions above.

as you can see, all the trick is to access the "service mode". after this, piece of cake. just follow the instructions.

sorry about not link the manual; not found in forums. google it.

hope helped you.

it wont even load up on my computer. it just sits there and says error on the display.

If you load SonicStage first without the unit connected, then plug in the computer USB and plug the USB into the MD, will it recognize the unit? Does SonicStage work with other discs?

I'm pushing you on this because I have had Format Error discs that the unit won't handle at all, but somehow SonicStage can deal with them. You might just have to replace the disc in the end, but it's worth a little effort to salvage it.
