Connect Player Start Problem

Hello,

i´ve got the Sony NW A 1000, nice device but the damn software connectplayer!

I installed all the stuff correct (all updates) and it works fine, but only for some software starts.

If it finished file importing (60GB) I close connect player and the next time the programme won´t start. I only see the little purple window and the small running bar and thats all :-( I have to close the programme with the task manager.

Whats the problem? I´ve installed it 4 times yet and I loose my patience.

Thanks!!

best regards

Marquis

Hi there. It would help to have some more information about your setup. What version of the player do you have (out of the box, updated from the web?), did you leave the ArtistLink feature enabled in settings, is the Walkman attached when starting up the software, system memory and CPU, etc.

With a little more detail I'm sure the forum folks can help you out.

I have updated it, Artist Link feature is disabled. Walkman was attached. CPU Intel Centrino 1,4, 512 MB DD-RAM.

This posting discribe my problem very well: http://www.atraclife.com/lofiversion/index.php/t441.html

Delete everything in the library directory (mine's found here "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sony Corporation\CONNECT Player\Library"). This usually works for me when things don't start up cleanly.

Correct it works, but i have to import everything again (not nice if you have 60GB)

Thanks for the feedback. You probably have loaded more music into the player than it can handle. That is unfortunate given the size of your device, but it is likely the culprit. I have found these numbers give some insight into why...

0 - 1000 tracks imported = player starts within 45 seconds

1500 - 2500 tracks imported = player starts within 1 ~ 2 minutes

2600 - 3200 tracks imported = 3 ~ 4 minutes before player starts

3300 + tracks imported = a wait time exceeding 7 minutes

For now the only advice I can offer is to go into a manual sync mode on the Walkman, import only 2K tracks, transfer them to the device, then empty the library and pull in the next 2K. This is an issue that is going to have to be fixed in the near future.

I am also having this same problem.

It happened when I tried to import some lossless WMAs, TinyHTTP.exe (The hideously-large, memory-resident, ironically-named piece of shit) performed an illegal operation or something like that and from then on, Connect would not load.

I'm not too impressed with Sony releasing such unstable software, it isn't even labelled as Beta but I know far more stable programs which are labelled as Beta.

Thanks for your answer! Do you really think Sony will be able to fix this problem? 7 minutes waiting to delete or upload some new songs is unacceptable.

What are the alternatives? Anybody guess, that anyone will develop an winamp plugin? What speeks against and/or for Sonic Stage 3.3, work that? What is with GYM, can anybody recommend that way? Have itunes similar problems with huge libaries (60GB)? If not, i will take the ipod nano.

I will phone to Sony tomorrow, if they are´t able to promise, that they will fix this problem within 7 days, i have to send my walkman back to the dealer :-(

best regards

Marquis,

If you don't miss some of the "intelligent features" of the Walkman, like ArtistLink, Intelligent Shuffle, Top 100 and the like, then you can start using SonicStage 3.3 right now until you find the Connect player working to your liking. It works right out of the download (someone here has the link to it) with your Walkman.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having so many problems, but you should try SonicStage to see if you can hang in there while the software gets fixed. It won't be in 7 days, but it will get done.

This is wierd, I am on a somewhat old PC now, running XP sp2, 5120 ram, 256 video card, which won't really do me much here except when playing games lol. And a 600mhz Intel 3 lol. So I am most likely on the crappiest of the crappy and yet somehow CP works fine for me, no major issues, except a few which are mostly due to the slow PC, but other than that, no major problems so far. The faster PC in the house has only usb 1.1 I think, although I never checked, and the older one has a 2.0 USB card stuck in it, so that is the reason I am on the crappier PC.

Puzzling indeed. Although I am planning eventually on switching to a faster PC, but not yet sadly.

Not much to add apart from THANKS.....spent my Boxing Day trying to get my son's NWA1000 up and running and probably encountered all of the problems described here plus also could not get any imports to work. Anyhow the suggestions of deleting the contents of the library folder and switching off Artist link have got us moving forward. Now for loading on to the player !

Happy New Year

Hi,

it´s a pity, that the intelligent feautures won´t work, but if it´s only a temporary problem... poor for Sony but liveable for a short time.

What do you mean with:

It works right out of the download (someone here has the link to it) with your Walkman.

Does the download won´t work? What kind of download do you mean? I will not be able to remove songs from the player or I can´t buy songs from the ConnectStore (they won´t ever see any cent from me ;-) ) If anybody knows which link is spoken to, please post it. Thanks!

Hi,

I just phoned the Sony hardware customer support.

They´ve never heared about the connect player problems, slow software, hanging up, no idea??? lol

The call center agent told me that we can count on updates about bimonthly.

Oh boy, I guess, I´ve to send this cool looking gadget back, design is not all :-(

best regards

I believe the is the stand alone installer for sonictstage 3.3 he is referring to:

http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=13149

Once you download it, all you do is install it. You will be able to add and remove songs with the program just like Connect Player.

Hello,

SS is definitely faster. But I have still two questions:

1: After transferring music to my nw a 1000 i got the message "please use supported software" or someething equal, this is no problem? The songs work definitely!

2. If I imported folders in SS and change these folders latter (copy songs from one to another, add new songs in these folders ) SS recognize it automaticlly??

Thanks.

best regards

Marquis
