I think B is for black

"The X-series Walkman video MP3 players will be available in May and will come in the following configuration in black:

- The NWZ- X1060 has about 32GB of internal storage and the recommended price is still to be determined."

from sony canada, I don't think there will be any other colours, maybe white? but for now probably just black.

I have seen in specifications (somewhere) that it DOES have the WM port. If you look back at the pictorial review from the French website you can clearly see it in one of the images. However, getting it to work with cradles will probably depend on the dimensions. At least it's still on the bottom of the device, Sony Ericsson keep moving their ports around so it's impossible for one cradle to be "multi-purpose".

Sorry to jump on the Band wagon, but I am getting so impatient about the Release of this product. Beginning of the Feb went into a Sony store, they said it could be avalible from the end of Feb, but there seems to be more and more websites saying Summer. Just wish Sony would release a date, anything, just so there was something solid. Mind you I guess worse case scenerio is they give a date and then keep taking it back, and back.......

 Just want one now!!!

Anthony, I sure as hell hope it fits my audio cradle! When you talk about dimensions, do you mean the thickness of the actual dap? I know the cradle has that adjuster which pulls in and out depending on how fat or skinny the player is. Or do you mean the dimensions of the port?

Sorry to ask such a silly question, actually, no, I'm not sorry. I always ask silly questions

KittyKat81: Welcome to the bandwagon!! Where are you based? I don't think a summer release was ever mentioned for the UK.

Hey,

I am based down in Brighton, so it will be the UK release. I have been scouring the internet forums since Mid January as I was hoping it would arrive in time for my birthday in middle of Feb. Wishful thinking obviously!! I knew I wanted to upgrade my exsisting Creative MP3 and when I saw this it just looked brillant, even with the dandruff effect, which I do quite like. But there has been loads of dates banded around over loads of different sites. The earliest was the guys in the Sony store saying end of Feb, there has been quite a few mentions of Spring, I am guessing April-May and even some reports of June, or early summer!! I am just getting to excited and it is going to be a very delayed birthday pressie....

I already pre-ordered mine from Amazon.co.uk last week. They have a dispatch date (from Sony) for 2-5 weeks. Did you see the link earlier in the thread???? When I first pre-ordered mine, there was no dispatch time given, but within a couple of days, my order had been updated with an estimated delivery date of March 5th to March 25th.

Hi Juli,

I did see it, I hate to put a dampener on it, fingers crossed I really hope it is true, but Amazon are fairly likely to change their delivery dates...... I am really hoping :):)

Emailed Amazon about their picture said they would try to find a up to date image over the next week, that would be a great sign. If it was to be released fairly soon I would expect it to appear on Sony Style as well. Fingers and toes crossed though.

Hey KittyKat81 - yes, fingers crossed, but I'm feeling quite positive about it since my order details were updated

And I emailed Amazon about the wrong pics too, and got a totally different response to you!!

We are sorry to learn that the image for the item "Sony Walkman NWZX1060B X Series with 32GB" is incorrectly listed in our website.

It is not possible for us to update the image as the item shows in longer availability.

Please be informed that I have forwarded your message to the relevant department and we will update the image as soon as the item comes to stock.

"The X Series is ready for ordering in 16GB (NWZ-X1050B) and 32GB (NWZ-X1060B) flavors, with both expected to be dispatched between a fortnight and five weeks. As for pricing? Try £214 ($308) for the little guy and £283 ($407) for the big brother."

http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/25/sonys-o...nd-dated-in-uk/

The 16GB is available to pre-order from Amazon too now. I think the price is okay, my 16GB A829 cost £209 when I bought it, and now the Touchscreen version is only £5 more. The 32GB version is £20 more than the 32GB iPod Touch, but it's still not as expensive as I thought it would be.

EDIT: Hey, maybe the image is gone because they're about to get them in stock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 32GB iPod Touch is also £283, so they cost exactly the same amount. http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop...mily/ipod_touch

Or am I missing something?

No, you're not missing anything. I got my iPod Touch from Amazon when it was £262, so I was basing it on that. Hmmm, so it's now priced exactly the same as the Touch, not a penny more, not a penny less.

And don't forget the Sony comes with decent noise-canceling earphones while the iPod comes with cheap crap.

Sony's earphones should be worth at least £40.

Oooh yeah!! Nice point in Sony's favour, kafkef! I think everyone hates the Apple stock buds, even devoted Apple fans. At least the Sony is a complete package with decent earphones that don't need upgrading unless you're just fussy. It sounds great straight out of the box. The Touch 'package' needs to be upgraded immediately to start getting a halfway decent sound out of it. I think it's a smart move that Sony supply their high-end daps with decent earphones. They know it sounds good, so why ruin first impressions by giving them a crappy pair of earphones that can't possibly do it justice? And without the need to upgrade the phones, the Sony actually works out cheaper than the Touch.

One nil to Sony

Yes Juli, but Sony's problem was never with their products. It's with their marketing ( now that Atrac is no longer an issue).

Until they can break Apples' spell over the masses they will always have this problem. I have heard many Walkman models being described as "Apple Beaters",we can go back as far as the HD1. However, Aplle devices are fashion items to most users and no amount of "better technology" can singularly change that.

Can we asume anything about the transfer method (between a computer and the walkman)? Will it be MTP/'no-software' transfer like recent models. I´m moving house in awhile and will only have an Ubuntu(Linux) laptop as my main computer. I´d like to know if I can still use this Walkman with that PC.

My guess would be that it's like the current Walkmans, ie Drag&Drop, WMP/Winamp/etc. Windows 7 users should be able to use the new Device Stage (like this http://www.gearlog.com/2009/01/sony_walkma..._up_windows.php ).

I haven't used Linux though so I don't really know what it supports when it comes to drag&drop and media players.

Hi Juli

I really really hope for all our sakes that this wonderful new player is out sooner rather than later!! I've got the funds set aside now - and will ( like Oldskoold!) be straight over to TCR to pick one up asap. ( My usual supplier is ASK - they know me as the "Sony collector!!" )

But your change of date reminded me of a situation I had last year. I'd found some (admittedly obscure ) CD's I wanted. I ordered on Amazon about Jan/Feb. Expected was early March. But then the date kept being put back several times. I complained - but got assured "definitely June"!! Then date got put back again. Rather than cancel - I just let it run. The date got put back a few weeks at a time - until just before Xmas - then suddenly it changed to "sorry unavailable"!!!! I'm sure (I hope) that this wont happen here Juli .......!? BUT I do just hope that the people who thought " late spring/summer" arent closer - compared with the "week or few" that the rest of us are hoping for!!

Re the machine - I'm surprised there arent more rumours/whispers etc about actual ( or hoped for) functions. I've no doubt the music side will be (at least) on a par with 820/630 series. But I'm wondering more re video( especially the on the fly downloading/watching of Youtube type stuff?) And for me especially the wi-fi/browser side is very important.

Hope someone / somewhere posts a hands-on soon!!!!

Regards to all.

Hi Shirley, yes, I'd like to know more about the wi-fi part of it too. I can't fault the Safari browser on the iPoop, the whole experience is very rewarding, and although it can't take the place of my laptop - it's really useful to have around when the laptop's switched off. Last year, I was able to sit in the garden, listen to music - and get sound alerts if any emails came through! But we don't really know anything at all about the ZX browser, or the on-the-fly downloading facilities, in fact, we don't know much at all.

As for Amazon pushing back dates, my friend ordered a Sony DVD recorder in November 2007 (a month after I got mine.) He got an availablility notice of 2/3 weeks... well, it finally showed up 6 months later in May!!! I really hope the ZX doesn't keep changing dates

Guest Stuge

I just checked Amazon to see if the dispatch date had been updated since the last time I looked (which was yesterday!!) - and now it says

Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months. :(

don't get disheartened so easily .

I will have to wait a little more than you since products are launched after two-three later, it has been launched in UK and US .

Anthony, I just called the Sony centre in Chelsea and actually talked to someone who was helpful. I know!! Helpful!

Anyway, he said they have an 'unconfirmed' release date of April in the UK. Hmmmmm.

And on a sour note - I noticed my 808 ran out of juice after 6 hours today, despite the fact it was fully charged in the cradle, and then switched off! I only charge it in the cradle, so maybe you can eliminate one of your other devices as being the 'discharging' culprit. I wondered if I'd left the Sony on, but I hadn't, because if it's left playing, the 'welcome' message doesn't pop up, which it did :(

I'm afraid that might be that cradle thing Anthony talked about. My A808 (probably bought about the same time as you bought yours, very soon after it got available :P ) has reduced batterylife to, but I still easily get 12-15 hours out of it.

Yesterday I googled on avaliability of the Sony Touchplayers, no other shop then Amazon.co.uk mentioned it becoming available soon, which didn't give me very much confidence in Amazon's estimation.

But who knows, once a shipload of these arrive in Europe it all could happen very fast.

Hee, interesting, thanks for the link, Kafkef.

This sure is tempting, but no price yet.

That is funny, Expansys still sells the NW-HD1! That brings back memories, used to love that player, miles above the ipods of those days IMO. But time has moved on, a friend of mine has it now, and while it still looks great, the sound is just a little bit undynamic and rolled off at the top compared to current Sony's.

Yeah, I noticed that too :) Reminded me of my old HD5.. if only it had more than 20GB I would still use it today.
