fuel37
Hi Guys,Just stumbled accross your site and just started reading about MD recording this week. I think that it is what I need. I basically need something to do some recording of my band's rehersals and some live recording so I'm guessing I need something with an auto line in volume adjust or a manual input volume adjust. I'm not concerned if you have a mic or not. I can find my own. I would prefer it to be a Hi-MD one as our practices are usually about 3 hrs long. Please let me know what you have. I'm in PEI, Canada. My email is fuel37@hotmail.comThanks in advance for your offers and advice,TJ
bobt
Hi TJMinidisc Canada (minidisccanada.com) has a sa;e right now of some units drom Australia, your best bet would be the MZ-NH900 of they have any left, if not the NH800 would work, as well as ther NH910 and RH10, but they are a bit more money. You will be very happy, I just used My NH1 this weekend to do some recording down here, turned out great.Hope you like the experience, and welcome to the forums.Take care,BobHi Guys,Just stumbled accross your site and just started reading about MD recording this week. A440
You don't have to break the bank. Get the NH700 here. It records the same as any other MD, has a mic-in and line-in, etc. http://www.minidisc-canada.com/shopdisplay...iniDisc+PlayersAlthough the NH900 has some fancy features, there are three design problems with the NH900. 1) The battery latch has to be taped shut if you have the unit in a pocket. 2) The display has a smoked-plastic face that makes it dark and hard to read. 3) Pause and Stop are two halves of the same rocker button, and they do very different things. The NH700 will run all night on a Duracell. It's all you need.
fuel37
Hey,Just want to thank you all for your excellent advice and for the links. I just put my order through for the MZ-NH700. Now... just need to find a good mic for recording a room. I know you guys probably covered this question a million times inside the forum (where I plan to reside for the next few days reading) but... I looked at the ones on the minidisc canada site but... I think that I can probably do better elsewhere (not saying there is anything wrong with their mics but... for the money I want to spend. I can do better elsewhere )any suggestions given what i'll be using it for??Thanks in advance,TJ
The Low Volta
if you browse the live-rec section of these forums, a lot of useful threads will pop up (a search for posts by A440 and greenmachine will also bring up lots of useful info)and if you have a technically capable person in you vicinity (or perhaps you yourself) I would strongly suggest greenmachine's DIY-guide for building mics and a battery box. It is very simple to follow and the mics are brilliant! I've been using them for over half a year now and they have delivered every time!... why give your money to some 'corporation' if you can build them yourself? And if you (like me ) can't solder two coins together, greenmachine also sells them pre-made (look at his site, mentioned in his signature)otherwise SoundPro is pretty good as their cheapish SP-BMC2 mics have produced decent recordings as well...enjoy the HiMD ride and be sure to check all pinned threads as they will also teach you about the safest way for uploading etc... and install SonicStage3.3 (available from downloads section) and not the lower SS version that you'll get on CD with the recorder! fuel37
Thanks, I've been reading all morning. There are some pretty smart guys around here. I can solder a bit but I'm not sure about building these mics and stuff myself. I can see problems I think I will order a couple of mics from church audio and maybe a preamp. Have you guys had any experience with his stuff? I've talked to him a bit already...seems like a nice guy.
