Equalizer setting and high frequencies RH10

Hi minidics users,

I recently received my rh10 minidisc recorder. I'm generally impressed by the recorder but using the default equalizer setting I was not happy with the high frequencies. I have to boost the high frequencies to have a nice clear sound. Is it just me (or perhaps my ears)? I don't think it's me though because I'm also having an older model minidisc recorder (MZ-R700), without equalizer, and the sound of it really good, also the high tones, and I'm wondering now whether I'm having a defective recorder. My question to you is, do you also experience inferior high frequencies using default settings with the RH10? PS I recorded from a cd direct to my rh10 using hi-sp (i.e. ATRAC3plus 256).

I have the same unit and I also set the treble all the way up. With different ear phones I lower it. Personally, I set the EQ (6-band) to the following from left to right:

1st: all the way up

2nd: one notch up

3rd: flat

4th: flat

5th: one notch up

6th: all the way up

This seems to give me the best sound quality.

It just goes to show ..

the sweeptone tests I did on my RH10 [digital amp] when I got it showed that by default it sweetens the sound compared to the NH700 [analogue amp].

I tend to listen with the high end turned DOWN at least one or two notches, but then, I have hyperacusis. Turning up the anything/eveything above about 2.5kHz = physical pain at even moderate volumes.

That said, I'm aware of the compensation I have to do [any what it sounds like compared to actual "flat"], and comparing the RH10 to most other players, it still has an almost exaggeratedly-sweet high end.
