WaywardTraveller
Hello,After trying out the new ATRAC3plus bitrates, calculating for my own use the amount of music that will fit on different length MDs with these compression rates, I thought these figures might be of use to those of us who are tinkering with the balance between quality/disc space.the figures below I produced by:1. Taking the amount, in MB, for an 80min disc for each compression rate as per SS (using the Import CD dialog box)2. dividing the MB by the no. of min to get a base figure of MB/min. of recording time3. dividing the disc space in MB by the base unit to get a rough figure of the total recording time in min.4. hacking a couple of minutes off to err on the side of cautionBased on my experiences with close shaves vis-a-vis recording space, I think it might even be better to cut a couple more minutes off to make sure you can plan accordingly. Anyways, my figures are below; I majored in lit. and not math, so corrections are welcome!ATRAC3plus 352kbps:-------------------------1GB: 6hrs. 22min80min: 1hr. 52min74min: 1hr. 45minATRAC3plus 192kbps:------------------------1GB: 11hrs. 40min.80min: 3hrs. 30min.74min: 3hrs. 13min.Hope this helps someone.peaceWaywardTraveller Edited February 21, 2006 by WaywardTraveller
Skradgee
This helps me, thanks WaywardTraveller. I'm always trying to reach the best balance of quality + space, and I was almost ready to break out the calculator and figure these out for myself. Mods/Admins, could we make this sticky or have the info posted at minidisc.org?
