Oopsss

Sorry I'll repost in the Software area ...

------------------------------------------------

Hello there!

I'm new to this site but not to the MD players. My first one was a sharp, heh.

Anywho, heres what happened.

I find and purchase an MZ-DH10P off of a teenager who used it 2 times before getting his hands on the new Ipod, so it came with everything: box, manual, case, price tag etc etc.

I install the software on my PC (HP Pavilion 8770C, 850 Mhz Athlon, 256 Mb) and it works great!

I manage to transfer around 5 cds to my Hi-MD, turn off my PC and the next time I turn it on I get this at the windows login screen:

A fatal error has occurred. To correct this error, reboot your PC. If rebooting does not correct this problem, reinstall the software.

So I rebooted, showed up again and noticed that while the message is up the Simple Burner Icon is on the task bar but its Black. I right click the icon to bring up the menu and click on "Show Standard Mode" and it gives me this:

NETMDSB caused an invalid page fault in Module NETMDSB.EXE at 1067:0040d817

I reinstalled software a couple of times and it worked those two times using the latest software online, and now it just shows this all the time.

so now I'm all out of ideas and you guys are my last hope...

HELP!!!!!!!

Thanks!

What versions of SS and SB came with the player?

What version of Windows are you running? What servicepack level are you updated to?

Have you updated your SS to v3.4?

It may or may not solve the problem to try installing the version of SB in the downloads section here. It might also help to disable SB's "load at windows startup" option.

I got SS 3.0 and SB 2.0 on the CD but I uninstalled these already and installed the latest stuff out there... at least to my knowledge.

I'm running Windows 98SE.

I'm gonna try to disable the start up option, to see if that helps...

THANKS for the super Prompt response!

Well, into the usual list of things to check then [some for problems with any piece of software, some specifically for SS and SB]:

* what else is running? can you close the other programs and see if SB works then?

* what else is running in the systray [down by the clock on the title bar]? can you stop/shut down these systray programs and see if SB works then?

* does the software behave the same whether you have a netMD/HiMD plugged in via USB or not?

* are you plugging your player in using a USB hub? DON'T. Plug straight into a port on your PC.

* are there other USB devices plugged in that might be interfering somehow? Unplug anything other than your pointing device [mouse/trackball].

* have you scanned for adware/spyware/malware of any kind recently?

Chances are the problem your experiencing is not caused by SB itself, but by something else you are running. Chances also are that whatever is causing the problem is something that you're not even aware is running.

Closed everything off one by one and tried... still nothing.

Only thing running now is the explorer.

No other USB devices are plugged in...

I really have no clue what it could be; THANKS for the quick responses!
