A440
Plug in a mic to the red mic jack. Push Record. What exactly is the problem you are having? Is the write-protect tab on the MD open? Are you getting an error message? Please explain.

Please explain.I'm talking about a regular md blank disc put into a HI MD recorder and trying to record. You need software to use a md in ahimd recorder but the directions are not straight forward in manual but if you don't know the diff between md and himd than I don't think your going to have my answer
The Low Volta
hey, please do no blame A440 for you not expressing yourself clearly: he probably has the answer to a lot of your questions...at least if we can understand the question.as for recording, there isn't really any significant difference between using a MD or a HiMD-disc. You have a couple of options:- connect a mic to mic-in (the red port on the HiMD) = recording- connect a line out or a mic+batt-box or mic+pre-amp to the line-in (white port) = recording as well- connect with USB to a PC (not a Mac or a linux-based PC), use Sonicstage (the most recent version 3.4 can be found in the downloads section) or Simple Burner (available from the same place) and transfer music from PC to HiMD/MD = downloadingof course if you need to create a disc that can be played in non-HiMD equipment, when recording (so not with PC->HiMD) you should set the rec-mode to SP or LP2 (which is only possible with the first gen HiMD (the NH- models) and not with the second gen (RH-) as they simply can't record in those modes) while using PC->HiMD you should format as MD (not HiMD) in SS or SB...so now do you see why how do you record with a mic a blank md in a hi md recorderisn't a straightforward question and why A440 actually answered your question perfectly?so yes, when going from PC->MD you need software (but it is the same software for MD- or HiMD-discs) while on the other hand: if you are trying to get music from an external source->MD/HiMD you need a mic or a line-in, but not softwareyou do not need extra software so you can use a standard MD in a HiMD-recorderPS: all of this could have been avoided if you had taken the time to read a manual before asking inanely vague questions! sorry for being rude, but you haven't really been polite to A440, one of our respected contributors here, either!
