MZ-N10 wont record

I have this unit and as far as i know its in great shape, havent even used it all that much. Anyway, my wife has a course she is taking so i bought her a mic (Sony ECM-DSOP (electret condenser mic) that the guy at radio shack said would work real well. I loaded a minidisk and showed her how to set the record button and the stop button. She went to her course and used it. When i see the minidisk in Sonicstage it shows the recording. She stopped it a few times and re-started so there are a few "files?" on the minidisk. One of them is a full 60 minutes. I tried playing this 60 minute file and there is nothing to hear. Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong?

thanks in advance

Was the mic plugged into the (red) Mic-in Jack? When you push Record the display should say Mic Recording. You should also be able to see level meters moving on the display. When nothing is plugged in or something is plugged into the (white) Line-in Jack it says Line Recording.

Try it with the mic yourself. It's possible the cord is bad or the jack is bad, but more likely it just wasn't connected right.

My post was up here for days and nobody answered, so i went to Audio Tboard where i got answers within a few hours. In the end, i had made a simple error. But i still got a lot of other info that will help me down the road.

So since there were no answers here i didnt bother to post that i had made a plug-in error.

Great that you got your answers + more over there. Sometimes if you post questions during a "holiday" weekend (Easter), there may be a delay. Or, in T-Board's case, everyone's home and readily able to answer. So, at times it's good to be a member of both boards. ;)

I think it's just dependent on it catching the eye of people at the right time and not really dependent on which forum--for example I didn't see this post here until just now, but I replied more than once to the thread on the T-Board...

If I'd seen it here first, it would have been the other way around...
