portable compatiblility question

I am looking to buy a portable MD player. I'm not too concerned with fancy features, ie, recording, downloading, etc, etc. I only want to use it for playing music, though I want it to have the standard features of play/PAUSE, good volume control, good sound for everything from classical to metal to country to new age. I have a sony mdx-d3 cd/md player/recorder from 2000. I believe it records in ATRAC 4.5. Could any of the newer portables (net MD or hi-Md) play my old standard minidiscs, though they usually play back ATRAC 3?

For instance, would one like this work to play my standard play minidiscs, and does it sound good?
