Right now there are three recorders that caught my attention and those are:Sony MZ-RH10Sony MZ-RH910Sony MZ-RH1 (currently unreleased to the US market)Should I wait for the MZ-RH1 or buy the MZ-RH910/MZ-RH10 before they are no longer on the market? RobA Posted May 21, 2006 Report Share Posted May 21, 2006 Depends on your needs. I strongly recommend the rh10 for its large and clear display. It will show all track info and has a jog dial on the unit, unlike the rh1, which cannot function at all as a player. If your sole purpose is recording and no playback at all, the rh1 is better. Of Course the RH1 can function as a player, it is assinine to think otherwise. From what I see it should work quite well in both regards. Roamer Posted May 21, 2006 Report Share Posted May 21, 2006 The RH1 can be used as a player, just that it is not the best for navigating.I always have less than 20 tracks on any HiMD/MD (unless I do a mistake when setting recording levels) and I could perfectly live without a jog dial. But it would be a real pain to use as a player, especially if you don't want to use or spend money on a 40elk. With a display that can't display artist/track titles and no jog dial, a disc with hundreds of tracks is really unusable. That's why I said it will not function as a player. Sure, the RH1 is more of a recorder's unit, but it can also be a great player whether it has a jog dial or 5-line display or not.In fact, most of the greatest "player-only" units do not have any kind of display or jog dial on the body, relying solely on the remote for navigation. Are you now going to say that all 30+ of those player-only units are terrible players? Probably not. For a majority of the MD population, a jog dial and unit display do not make or break a unit's reputation. The EH1 is made to be slim and player-only, no inputs/outputs, not even usb. I'm making these recommendations to someone that doesn't have any himd player to write himd discs. The eh1 is nice as it is super compact, super slim, and all metal. And it is SHIPPED with the 40elk, pretty much solving any display/jog dial problems. Sure the unit itself isn't really usuable, but adding stuff like a display/jog dial would ruin the point of a player unit, being a slim and compact marvel. Actually, your recommendations, or should I say criticisms, of the RH1 are based on its ability to function as a playback-only unit, not as an overall Hi-MD unit. My main concern is weather or not Sony will release the recorder in the US market. The fact that I can upload my MDLP recordings to file via sonicstage is reason enough to pick up the unit.
