Arango99
I downloaded SS CP and have been trying to get it to work with no sucess. It crashes upon launch everytime and I get the following error message: Omgjbox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. When I click on the link for the details it shows the following info:AppName: omgjbox.exe AppVer: 4.0.0.5080 ModName: items.dllModVer: 3.7.0.5080 Offset: 000133c7The same error occurs when I launch the Connect Store icon on my desktop. Any help would be most appreciated.
A440
Have you used a previous version of SonicStage? Or is this your first? Do you have some space (200 MB?) left on your disc? Some possibilities for conflicts: Do you have installed: a windows skinning application like Windowblinds? Definitely turn it off. an Nvidia graphics card? Search these forums for Nvidia. FFDshow codecs? Seach these forums for FFdshow. Also, if you have a firewall runnning, disconnect from the internet (to prevent anything bad getting through) and turn off the firewall and see if that is stopping SonicStage. Those are the easy fixes. Do any of them apply?

The most recent versions, 3.3 & 3.4 have worked fine.7 gig of storage available on my HD,No skinning software installed,As far as I can tell, no Nvidia graphics card,Don't know what FFDshow codecs are,No software firwall, just a hardware one in my wireless router. If it helps at all I am running XP Home SP2 on a Dell Inspiron 1150 with 768 MB RAMThanks again. A440
Dang, it's never the easy ones. I haven't switched from 3.4 to 4.0 yet, and reports like this and other bug problems aren't making me very eager to do so. I don't know what else to suggest other then using Task Manager (press CTRL-ALT-DELETE just once) and shutting down other running applications or processes (selectively) to see if you can find a conflict. SonicStage is very greedy for computer resources, so other running programs may be using too much RAM. If that fails, either cross your fingers that one of the real computer experts here has an idea, or uninstall 4.0 and go back to the reliability of 3.4. You can get a standalone 3.4 installer from Downloads here if Sony has removed it. Be sure to use the Backup Tool (under Programs/SonicStage, not in SonicStage) on My Library, if you can, before uninstalling.
Arango99
Tried shutting down a bunch of processes but that didn't help. I uninstalled SS CP and uninstalled all other SS related applications as well as deleted the Sony folder in my Program Files folder. I then reinstalled SS CP and still get the same error upon launching the program. Also tried several suggestions from previous post's regarding SS crashes (running MDAC Repair Tool, updating .Net framework, updated DirectX, etc) all to no avail. Looks like I'll need to revert to 3.4 unless someone else has any ideas.

Then you can install SS 4.0 Unfortunately, that's not what you probably want. Other than that, some Windows files may have been corrupted. Did you uninstall the codecs as well? A440
What's odd is that you had previous SonicStage versions working. So it's something installed between your last SonicStage upgrade and 4.0, or it's some bug in 4.0. Have you changed internet security programs, installed a new media player, or put in something else that might confuse SonicStage? To see what codecs are installed, go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices. Click the Hardware tab, highlight Audio Codecs, click Properties and then the Properties under Audio Codecs. See if there's anything peculiar in there--use Google to find out about the filenames. If you have any FFDshow codecs in there, uninstall them (with Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel). You can disable individual ones and try SonicStage again after rebooting. Here's how to disable: http://www.updatexp.com/windows-xp-codecs.htmlTo check for general Windows problems you could try: Start/Run and type in sfc/scannow Here's some other info on sfc (system file checker), though with luck you won't have to go to this level of geekness. http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html Edited May 31, 2006 by A440
Arango99
I realy have no interest in formating and reloading XP. Other than SS crashing everything else woks fine. Besides, too many progams would need to be reinstalled. I tried disabling all other codecs except the Sony ATRAC3 codec - this didn't help. Ran sfc and that did not work to resolve the problem. SS still crashing but I did notice that it gets to the loading "UI Components" in the start-up dialog before doing so.
A440
it gets to the loading "UI Components" in the start-up dialog before doing so.Hmmmm. How about disabling some video codecs? And I know you don't have Windowblinds, but how about elaborate skins on other programs? I have a few dozen Winamp skins, various browser and media player skins, etc., with no problems, but do you have any elaborate skinning going on with individual programs? Arango99
The video codecs don't give me any options for disabling, just removal. No skins other than winamp, but nothing I would consider 'elaborate'. Other than that I do use themes in Firefox, but again, nothing elaborate. I really appreciate the help you guys are trying to give.
Arango99
Maybe someone could e-mail me the items.dll from an earlier version of SS? At t his point it's worth a try.
