Hello all I'm new to the mini disk world, but about 2 weeks ago my friend broke a psp game, so in return he gave me his Sony MZ-NE410, and i was thrilled because my iPod died in march and i needed something for mowing lawns. I love the player but i have one question:

Does anyone else have problems trying to switch tracks? I will press the next track button and it will either restart the song, skip backwards, or adjust the volume! Its driving me crazy because i tend to sikp around alot and i really want it to work smoothly.

Any insight would be great!

It is the main control board in the player, I have an MZR-900 and it does the same thing, by the sounds of it, yours is a HiMD not just MD, so a new board will be easily found, I am going to get mine fixed too, most authorised Minidisc repairer places will have spare control boards from other machines that have been written off from other causes, or it may cost about $50 bucks for a new board, which will come off the fee to have the player looked at any way, yeah so it is or (would) be its main board, I don't know why some models do this, my brother had a MZN-10 that done the same thing...... my MZR-900 is an old 2001 model, running ATRAC 4.5, it still works grate, I had to put in a new laser because I sprayed the wrong cleaning sh*t into it and it stuffed the laser, but other than that when I skip tracks it will either: write a track mark, skip backwards, not skip nowhere, or restart the song I was at.....It can also be its matrix board?????

your not alone mate, but its worth getting it fixed, because you will soon realise how much better a Minidisc player is compared to a poxy iPod.........

Dexter.......:)

- it is not HiMD IIRC

- and as it probably isn't under warranty anymore, it is not really worth getting it fixed as that could easily cost more than a new HiMD downloader (NH600D, RH710D)

if you like the MD-idea, just search around for a new NH600D... this will offer you los more music on one disc and they come pretty cheap nowadays (often seen <$60 IIRC)

I agree that it is not worth getting fixed. I disagree that the NE410 is much better compared to a "poxy iPod." The NE410 is a budget mindisc unit (download-only). And, it is not Hi-MD, just NetMD. I don't know why Dexter thinks the NE410 "sounds like it's Hi-MD" when every Hi-MD unit has an "H" in its name.

Here is a description of the NE410: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-NE410.html

For most non-Hi-MD units past the warranty period, Sony USA charges around US$100 for repair. Sometimes they will give you a refurbished unit or equivalent if yours can't be fixed. I also recommend getting a new/used Hi-MD unit - replacing is usually a much better option than fixing, unless you like overpaying Sony and their associates. Good luck.

Ehh i was hoping it was some sort of fix that I could do, and recently it has been working okay, just a couple of times it has been messed. I have found its alot easier to just make mix mini disks and then put it on shuffle so it kinda masks the problems. I'll just stick with the player, I love it it lasts forever on a AA and sounds good, I can fit 60 ish songs in LP4, and it doesn't sound 1/2 bad.

Thanks for the Response.
