803cd
It appears that the BMW 1 series has a MD player as a factory fit option (replacing CD player). Does anyone have any experience or info about this?
jaylen
Mazda, Toyota, and BMW have all had that option of in-dash MD, but as far as I know, it was not available in the USA, but available in other countries, like Australia, on $$pecial order. (If you check eBay, there are in-dash MD players for older BMWs up for auction every now and then.) My guess is that BMW 1-series' MD player will most likely not be Hi-MD compatible. An (affordable? easier?) alternative would be to get a car deck with an AUX input.
803cd
Having done a bit more research i seems all BMW 1 series come with a AUX in socket. It seems the real benefit of a factory fitted MD deck is that (I think) you get steering wheel control of the MD.
jaylen
Yeah, I think that's largely the reason why someone would opt for the MD in-dash deck. BMW and Mercedes has a similar set up for the iPod, where everything can be controlled with the steering wheel buttons and viewed through the driver's dash display. I just saw a UK site and it could get pricey for BMW+MD. In order to get the single disc MD player, you have to get the "BMW Professional Radio/CD" as an option first. Too bad it's not Hi-MD.
