Song Transferring

I currently have the MZ-N420D. I use to have a different kind of minidisc until my headphones broke inside them, regardless, I used Sonic Stage v3.0 before and had absolutely NO problems what so ever. Now I had uninstalled that one once I bought my new minidisc because it was screwing up. I was told to updgrade to v4.0. Now, I try and transfer songs which I had transferred before and what happens? Almost EVERY song cannot transfer. It just says "The following tracks could not be transferred" This is EXTREMELY annoying as I am planning to go away and wanted to listen to some new music I had recently downloaded. Anyone tell me what is going on?

EDIT : Uninstalled the program to try and fix them. Got in a huge big mess with everything. Did a system restore and now everytime I open Sonic Stage v4.0 it crashes and causes an error. Did I mention I hate this program with a passion?

Can't even get this program to work anymore, keeps getting errors.

do you have any windows skins running? if so, turn it off

completely uninstall (see the pinned threads in the software section) SS and reinstall 4.0

Ok I got Sonic Stage 4.0 working now by uninstalling my windows skin. But the problem still remains that 90% of my tracks cannot be transferred when all of the tracks I am trying to put on were put on a previous minidisc with absolutely no problems just not the same version. I import the music files from my computer and transfer them on, then it goes to the converting part..stays at 0% and then moves on to the next song. Once it's done it comes up with a window and tells me "Error occured while transferring" and says "Transfers are not allowed" and the another windows pops up saying "These tracks cannot be transfered" "Unable to transfer the track or tracks"

EDIT : Ok so I used a mp3 disc I had made earlier for about half of the songs I wanted on the minidisc, 19/25 transferred fine, 1 couldnt be transferred due to its file extension which is fine I didnt think it would work anyways, the other 5 couldnt transfer, so once the 19 were done, I retried each song about 1 at a time and they all transferred without any problems? What the hell is this shit?! The problem still remains that it says I cannot transfer them because they are not allowed.

You probably transferred them with an old version of SonicStage that limited the number of transfers, adding DRM (digital rights managment).

Try this, from this thread:

http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showt...=DRM+SonicStage

In SonicStage, go the the menu "Tools" and select "Start File Conversion Tool".

If it opens up, click Next and then UNSELECT both options ('Delete Files' and 'Add DRM'). Click Next and the tool will start converting all drm-ed files to non-drm-ed files.

Back in the bad old days, SonicStage had a horrible check-in/check-out feature that prevented transfers of tracks from computer to multiple outboard devices. The files are still on your computer, but they're "checked out" so SonicStage wouldn't transfer them again. Those files may still be locked because an old SonicStage was used with them, and possibly the new SonicStage still won't unlock them.

Have you tried Hi-MD Renderer? It may be able to convert tracks that are in My Library to .mp3 or another unencrypted format. Try it and see if it will convert them to .wav or .mp3 (make sure you are using a high bitrate for .mp3, >192) and then import the converted files back into SonicStage. Hi-MD Renderer is free (though you can send Marcnet a donation) and worth a try.

If Hi-MD Renderer won't work, and your only copy of the files is on your computer, and you are desperate to have them, you could make a realtime recording: either analog out of your headphone jack (from the computer) into the MD, or digitally by playing them back on the computer with SonicStage and recording them with Total Recorder, which costs $18--it intercepts sound on the way to your soundcard and records it. Make sure you're recording in .wav or high-bitrate .mp3.
