neljan
Hello all,After finally finding a version of SonicStage that works for me (4.0), I have discovered that I am unable to transfer recordings made from my MDS-JE70 to my library anyway! Is this correct? The tracks appear in the device/media info section of the transfer screen, but when I attempt to transfer I get:"Unable to transfer the following tracks to My Library because they are recordedby Net MD or another computer."I take it they only want me to transfer mp3's downloaded from their site or a verifiable source?Basically, I transfered my vinyl onto MD and would like them on my PC - Is there some sort of hack or alternative software I can use to do this?Any advice would be appreciated...Glenn. raintheory
What (Hi)-MD unit are you attempting to transfer the songs with?Only the MZ-RH1 will allow any transfers of (most) legacy recordings (SP/MONO/LP2/LP4).
neljan
Hi, thanks for the quick response!I'm using an MDS-JE780, it's a hi-fi seperate -http://www.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.act...MiniDisc+PlayerIt's NetMD.
raintheory
The only way to get those recordings to PC would be in realtime... I beleive the JE780 has optical-out so if your soundcard has an optical-in you can get a digital copy. Otherwise you will have to go the analog route. Either way, you can use the freeware program Audacity to record the optical/analog signal. On the other hand if you know anyone with the MZ-RH1 they should be able to upload the tracks for you. neljan
I had a suspicion that would be the case...real time, waste of time. How about I just sell the unit on Ebay for 50p? With MP3 and HD, MD might aswell stand for 'My-Dick'.Or better still, I could convert it into millions of particles via my foot, send them to Sony, and tell them that I find a recording device with a USB port which is supposed to be supported by their 'software' a complete contradictary, then, connect my Technics 1200mk5's directly to my PC via my Pioneer mixer and digital leads as you rightly said, and record without any copyright-priority commercially orientated capitalist program, popping up and telling me my music I purchased lagitimately and recorded on their device, isn't 'appropriate' for their 26mb program, which took two days to install, and now only serves me as track renaming tool.I have a Sony PSP,PS2,TV,DVD Recorder, DVD player, DVD-RW drive, Monitor, Camera, and VHS recorder. All top notch.I think any copyright infringement I wasn't going to make anyway, would be more than compensated for my purchases over the years, and just about cover the 3.99 of me illegally downloading 'Kylie Minogue - I Should be so lucky if I can get this on to MD' dont you?.Phew...that's better. The Low Volta
glad to see you got that rant of your chest... but really, if you had looked into the specs you should have known that NetMD is one-way USB (Sony never pretended it was two way)they reinvented MD as HiMD which is two-way and now there is even the RH1: a HiMD recorder that can also upload legacy recordings to PC through USBBTW, they have dropped almost all DRM/copy-protection stuff as well

At the time it was simply for replacing cassette's for home recordings, so looking into the specs regarding USB wasn't an issue, it's only now that I would like to extend my horizons...Hi-MD Sounds great for those on-the-go, but what about home/professional users? it appears Sony have neglected the range, I searched for a newer MD deck, and the only one I found was mine which is a few years old...but I'm getting this now anyway:http://www.av-land.co.uk/yamaha/cdrhd1500/index.htmI don't see any point in getting even a portable MD player now, do you? The Low Volta
well, as you didn't even care about it when you bought it I really don't think it is fair to blame Sony now that they didn't implement it then (maybe they just didn't have the tech yet at that point)there are a couple of HiMD decks (midi sized) from Onkyo and the RH1 (while meant to be portable) works great as a micro-deck too (real line out, built to be very easily usable on a desktop,...)most pro users interested in MD at the time were happy with SP, now HiMD offers PCM... the extra's the yamaha offers in terms of SQ are simply overkill for all but the most pro userdo not get me wrong, you are free to move on from MD and I do not think that (Hi)MD is the ultimate technology (I'm sure flash-based recorders will replace it in the not so far future) but to state that the technology is obsolete while you haven't really researched it + do not offer real alternatives (the yamaha is a non-portable deck that costs £500 for the cheapest model) is kinda harshwhat real alternative is there for portable recording with the same ease of use + same SQ + price-range + size + battery life + storage space (including removable media) + also useable as a micro-deck + also useable as a standalone portable player... I don't see a point in throwing aside a technology before there's an alternative now, do you?disclaimer: please don't get me wrong, you ARE free to do and think what you want and I do not want to start the "MD is dead >< MD is not dead"-war again... but please don't simply generalize your own personal experience (ok so you got a deck that can't upload but was never intended to and now you need other functionality without portability and while you could go for HiMD, you can spare some money so you have found an alternative that works for you)... that is really interesting info, but it is not 'true for everybody'peace and I hope you do post your impressions of your new machine once you get it! we're not afraid to learn
