Hi everyone.

I've had my MZ-NH800 for a while now. But when I got a new Hp Laptop with optical out, I decided to make a copy of a podcast i was listening to. I bought an optical cable and tried... with all settings to no avail... All I got was a message saying NO DIGITAL COPY. I know some of you will say why not use the analog connection!! well its simply because I paid for this feature and i want to try it. Is there any way I can use the optical out feature on my laptop. I heard someone say buy an external soundcard. Will that work or am I stuck using snalog although it advertises the ability to make a digital copy.

Thanks a lot to anyone who can put in his input.

get or make a copy protection stripper

http://www.google.com.au/search?num=100&am...earch&meta=

it would strip the thing off that tells the player it can't be copied so it can be recorded without trouble

or use an exact sound catcher like totalrecorder (pay $$$$$$$$$$) or audacity (free) and catch the sound with the same computer that's playing it and then send it to minidisc

if the podcast is already on your computer, just convert the format if needed and send it to minidisc with sonicstage

thank you for you input. But wow. I can't its that complicated to achieve a seemingl very simple task. Do you think, if i use an external modem. I could get this done. or its just a waist of money.

I don't see why you don't want to just transfer the podcast. It's probably an mp3. For maximum digital fidelity, you could convert it to .wav (with dbpoweramp, from Downloads) and Transfer it "as-is" through Sonicstage. Or you could let SonicStage compress the original mp3 to Hi-SP or Hi-LP.

How about recording something other than the podcast from your laptop through your optical input? Make your own mic recording with Windows Sound Recorder or Audacity, and see if that can be recorded via optical.

Is it possible your laptop is applying some kind of copy protection to the file? Do you have a Windows XP Media Center computer? There's a lot of sneaky copy protection built into that operating system--just Google "media center" and "copy protection" together. It may not be the fault of the MD unit after all.

The only reason to get an external soundcard would be for optical out, but you say you have that already in the laptop. If it's being copy-protected by the laptop, an external soundcard won't do any good, since Windows is still running it.
