using the DAC in a NH1/MH900

I am looking for some special help here today :)

I am connecting my laptop to my Hifi Amp using the headphone Out.

I have a 500GB ext hard drive - half full of mp3's - connected using usb to the laptop. I am playing my music files through my Amp and ProAc speakers. I sounds ok, but I want it to be better.

laptop>3 1/2mm jack connector>phono plugs>Amp>Speakers

I am told it would be better with a DAC between the laptop and Amp :ok:

laptop>3 1/2mm jack connector>DAC>phono plugs>Amp>Speakers

My wonderful minidisc has a built-in DAC I have both NH1 and NH 900

I want to use a minidisc between laptop and Amp, but I cannot get the sound to pass through the minidisc :(

laptop>3 1/2mm jack connector>minidisc>3 1/2mm jack adaptor>phono plugs>Amp>Speakers

Please help me and tell me how to get the sound into the minidisc Line In and out through the minidisc headphone Out. Like what settings/buttons do I press

Thanks,

This will only work if your laptop has an optical-out connection. You connect this to the optical-in on your MD, and put it in record mode (I guess pause-record will work).

Sounds to me as what you are trying to do now, is sending an analog signal from your laptop to your MD, which converts that to a digital signal first with its ADC, and then uses its DAC to convert it to an analog signal again. I don't think the sound will improve a lot this way.
