A440
Are your 500 GB in a RAID array? SonicStage has had trouble with those. SDMI was a very old record-company attempt to stop copying, and frankly I'm amazed that its remnants are still in SonicStage since it was cracked.http://cryptome.org/sdmi-attack.htmWhat are you trying to convert to or from .wav? raintheory
What other music managers/players do you have installed?
Karmageddon
well I'll answer those questions in a few.I have made two other posts that relate to this situation, in the past week (with no replies/help btw)Basically I had to reinstall my OS (XP SP2 no new hardware) due to a HD failure. I initially backed up my 40 GB library using SS 3.4 backup tool. When I reinstalled everything (just XP, my drivers which never had a conflict the last 6 times i have re-loaded SS, and Sound Forge and CD Architect) and when I went to restore it, the backup utility said it could not authenticate the database - with ALL trax ripped to WAV using EAC and imported one album at a time. So I ended up re-importing each album seperatly, ONLY to discover that the rights were removed and I could not transfer to my MZRH1. Just for giggles, I tired to import a WAV file ripped using EAC and it imported okay, but it wouldn't let me convert it to any ATRAC format saying the file could not be found (?) and sometimes another error would come up saying something along the lines of ..."file type not supported..." (!!!)so I unintsalled 3.4 (that came with my RH1, again no probs before) and followed all the steps on the forum to repair the database, etc...no luck. still same problems. And then last night I tried to re-import my Backup library and it WORKED!but half of the files have no rights information and can not be transferred or saved as a WAV. but if i delete the files from SS and re-import the album, 9 times out 10 I can transfer then after. odd i know...So I got this error (SDMI) today when I imported some WAVs i had recorded at the recording studio last night, and it gave me this error when I tried to convert them. I shut down SS and re-imported. it was able to convert 2 out of 7 trax. shut down again. deleted the files that would not convert from SS and re-imported. and they worked!so what does all of this mean, other than I am little annoyed, because it looks like I have to re-format again (although I don't know why)so in answer to your questions:a - NO - I do not have a RAID setup.b - my media players are: WMP 10, Foobar 2000 0.9.2, Quicktime 6.02 & Power DVD. I also believe Real Media was installed with Firefox as well.any help would be appreciated. I am about ready to go bananas!EDIT:there is something else to add. When the SDMI error came up it asked me to go to the OepnMG website to update some components (very odd, considering it is SS 3.4) Edited November 7, 2006 by karmageddon
A440
Since the behavior is so inconsistent, it's really hard to guess what's going on. Was there anything different about the .wav files from the studio? Were they recorded optically, which might add some kind of control code? When you rip the files with EAC, does it have them buried deep in some sub-sub-directory? How about just putting the files you want to import in a folder that's just on the C: drive, like C:/EACrips Before you go through formatting again, which always jeopardizes your Backup, you really should contact Sony Support since that's a brand new unit and you're using it with its own newly installed software. Don't bother using the Chat support, which is elemantary-level--call up the support line and prepare to have something to do while you're on hold. You'll probably have to escalate through some levels of tech support, but they owe you some help, especially since you're also using Sony's Sound Forge and CD Architect. Who knows? There may be conflicts between Sony's own programs. You could try uninstalling them and see if SonicStage starts working right.
