problem is

the connected ATRAC audio device cannot be used with the currently installed Sonicstage.

To use with the currently installed Sonicstage, you need to delete All tracks in the ATRAC audio device or initialize the hard disk of the ATRAC Audio device

(error code 000066a3)

It seems that the regional version (usually either EU or US) of SonicStage 3.4 you have installed requires you to reinitialize the VAIO Pocket. If you do not require CONNECT music service, please try installing the Asia-Pacific version of SonicStage 3.4. Most users have reported that the Asia-Pacific version does not require re-initialization of the ATRAC device. I personally utilize the Japanese version and never had to reinitialize any of my ATRAC devices thus far. If you should require CONNECT music service module, please let me know and I will provide you with (the latest US CONNECT module) a separate add-on module so you can add to the Asia-Pacific version of SonicStage 3.4.

Good luck and report back should you decide to take this route.

I am sorry that the suggested method does not work for you. It appears that you will need to reinitialize regardless since your VAIO Pocket was "registered" with a previous SonicStage version that requires re-initialization upon every update.

If anyone else have a better solution, please post accordingly.

Other than just you Ishi, seems like some one is having problems with the VP being reconized by SS 3.4.

Can anyone else confirm / deny the results of the upgraded 3.4 version with Sony Vaio Pockets?

Please note this is not a recognition problem per say. This is actually a well-known issue regarding SonicStage's cumbersome re-initialization requirements. There are many discussions about this issue within the "Software" section of the forum – where a user using SonicStage (regardless version number) especially of US or European region are required to initialize their respective ATRAC device for every version update.

If you are updating from a US or European version of SonicStage, you will likely experienced this cumbersome re-initialization issue.

Okay so if someone upgrades...there is the risk of reinitializing.

If I understand correctly, reinitilizing, means total memory wipe...EVERYTHING ERASED, is this correct?

Let us assume that it will always ask for re-initializtion when upgrading, how does one keep all songs(or whatever else) from being erased? Would it just mean a simple process of making a back up (back up tool in SS or copy the OMGAUDIO folder <---sony VP) then uninstalling the newer version and put back the original version, and then finally place back the backed up songs ?

I am debating whether or not I will upgrade to the 3.4 with my Sony VP.

**edit** I forgot to mention there is nothing in my SS library =). I transfered all my songs using the Vaio Pocket Transfer program. I thought it best that I do not depend on SS to upload songs.

Thanks

No. Re-initialization of the ATRAC device only constitute of a complete erasure of your music library within the ATRAC device. The flash memory remains intact if I remember correctly. Regardless, this is indeed very cumbersome as the user will be forced to re-transfer or rebuild the music library of the ATRAC device in question.

Unfortunately, there is no simple backup process to restore the music library back to your ATRAC device upon a re-initialization. You will have to rebuild it from your existing Music Library within SonicStage.

As I mentioned in the preceding posts, the only way I know of to avoid such tedious task is to utilize SonicStage Japanese, Asia-Pacific or the JEB (Overseas) version from the beginning. From my experience, re-initialization of the ATRAC device will never occur using the aforementioned SonicStage regional version. For your reference, please read this thread.

Back to your predicament: assume you are currently employing SonicStage 3.x US version and there’s a high possibility that you will experience re-initialization request upon the update to version 3.4. The best advice I can impart is to experiment. Install SonicStage 3.4 (US version) in another PC if available to discern if you need to re-initialize. If not, brilliant. Some users (mostly European users) never had to reinitialize if they stick to the same regional version from the onset.

The second option is to install SonicStage of Japanese, Asia-Pacific or JEB (Overseas) version. Most users have success avoiding this cumbersome request by an update using either the Asia-Pacific or the JEB (Overseas) version of SonicStage 3.4. Of course, there are no guarantees.

Either way you can discern where you stand with the re-initialization process and at the same time safeguard your music library within the VAIO Pocket if you just have no time to rebuild it. Good luck.

Hi everyone.

I've recently brought a sony mp3 NW-E00SF from Hong Kong and have been getting the same message:

"the connected ATRAC audio device cannot be used with the currently installed Sonicstage.

To use with the currently installed Sonicstage, you need to delete All tracks in the ATRAC audio device or initialize the hard disk of the ATRAC Audio device"

I have the 4.5 version. Tried to uninstall it and even downloaded the 4.0 version but nothing works.

I wouldn't mind initializing it but I can't even do that! The little box on the right hand corner that says 'Device/Media info' isn't even highlighted for me to click it.

Please save me so I can listen on my mp3 again! Thanks!
