Hello,

Don't know if this is the right forum to post in but I visited the SonyCentral City store in Sydney today and found that 1GB Hi-MD discs were on special at $5.95 each. I think this is 1/2 price from the recommended retail. Appeared to have plenty of stock on the shelves. Packs of standard minidiscs were also on sale.

The store is on the corner of George and Goulburn streets across the road from the cinema strip in George Street.

Regards,

mkes

Well, take advantage of it while you can - I called the Galleria Sony store here in Melbourne and the Hi-MD discs here are normal price. :(

peace

  • 2 weeks later...

i just purchased 5 sony discs on ebay with buy-it-now

the total was $30 with shipping included.

basically same price then,, if sony ships free that is...

oh,perhaps this is the best $ though in australia,,just noticed that...

Is this a good price for the minidiscs? I just bought an RH1 and it will be shipping on Monday from soundprofessionals.com (I also got a mic and battery module from them too). It comes with 1 minidisc but I figured I should get a few more. I was thinking a 3 pack would be sufficient? sorry for the noob question, but how much time can I record on a regular minidisc at the highest sound quality?

If you keep uploading what's on them, Sony claims you should be able to erase and reuse the disc essentially forever. But you might want to have a handful in case you don't get around to uploading.

Best price I have found on discs in the USA is at http://www.tapewarehouse.com/catalog/CatFrame.cfm

$4.67 per disc plus about $8 shipping for up to 10 (as many as I have ordered at a time) and maybe more. 10 discs is a little less than $5.50 per disc.

You have to to the catalog page, Digital Audio drop-down, Minidisc, and SCM HMD1G HI-MD DISC , which is a Sony 1GB disc--the newer, transparent blue ones.

Maybe they're so cheap because no one can find them to order.

Just went ahead and ordered 10. It seemed like a good number. I added 9 to the cart and 11 to the cart and the shipping stayed roughly the same, varying by maybe $.10 or so cents.

Thanks for the lead A440. I have no idea how many I need, but I think 10 should be sufficient (at least for now).
