Well, to give a brief overview and start this off, i've had my MD-1600mhz (think thats what its called) for 3 yrs now, and its been on roads so rough it was literally 'bouncing' off the dashboard, its been through -40 degree's CELCIUS winters (i just have it inside my jacket and its just happy as can be) and 'ive dropped it in snow, and God knows what else, and its LIVES ON :D

This is the same MD from one of my other threads 'the IPK (ipod killer, about my MD during summer job when 3 i-pods broke and my MD chugged on all summer long in outdoor work and irritated people lol)

All i can say is well, damn. My little MD's been through hell and back and is still rockin as hard as they day i got it 3 yrs ago. All it takes is a little common sense and a good carrying case and these things can survive anything short of a nuclear fallout lol.

Thats the only reason i never have and will get an i-pod, everyone i know thats ever owned an i-pod is on there SECOND or THIRD i-pod. No thanx.

I dont know if they'll ever make a higher capacity MD, but until they do, i'll be just fine jammin away with the one i got :) And if they dont, oh well, 1gig per disc is just fine with me cuase i have one in it and 2 in my carrying case so 3gig's of music compressed at 92k rate per song is between 450-500 songs per disc for me, and thats plenty for me!

Peace ^_^

Can you recommend a good carrying case and/or any of your common sense secrets?

Hey Karl :) Well the carrying case i found was in 'the source' (aka Radio Shack) made by BodyGlove.

I dont see the exact one i have but i found a link to some for you :)

http://www.minidiscaccess.com/item.html?PRID=1312398 <-- this ones close to mine and is good and sturdy. (the AMD MiniDisc Player Bag - Black one) 7.99

i also found this link for the mainpage they have a ton of cases here and all kinds of neat stuff :)

http://www.minidiscaccess.com/generic.html?pid=20 <--- (minidiscaccess.com) Great page!

http://www.amazon.com/Duracell-Rechargeabl...0/dp/B000255IUA <--link to Duracell rechargeables

A few tips i stuck by thats made my MD stay alive for 3 yrs...

1. if its cold outside (i live in Canada) and you left your MD in the car or something..let it warm up for a bit.

2. ALWAYS carry it in the carrying case. Prevents damage, and especially dust from getting into the MD, and absorbs shock etc.

3.Get a carrying case with a belt clip. ALOT harder to fall off belt then out of pocket & onto the road etc.

4.Carrying case, i cant stress that enough, mines 'always' in its carrying case and it literally looks brand new still. People dont believe its 3 yrs old.

The case alone will probably save your MD from just about everything if its decent. Shock, breaking, dust, water, snow etc lol.

Other then that if u have an older MD like me get rechargeable batteries. I bought 4 rechargeable batteries, DURACELL rechargables, and it came with the charger for only 29.99. That way u can tote your MD around and even have a spare batter in yur pocket just in case and no more wasting money on batteries. Mine lasts for about 8 hours on one rechargeable Duracell.

Hopefully this helps. Its just what i do so it might not work for everyone but hopefully this and that link above helps. :) Just google 'MD carrying cases' if u want to find more.

Peace :)

Just adding a little recommendation, the grey armband case from Sony is a great buy. It's well padded and for a arm band it doesn't slide down much. Two caveats, fits AA units nicely I haven't found a gumstick unit that fits in it well and it's a little on the ugly side. I used it for two summers holding my NH600D while weed whacking on a steep hill for a hour and half everyother week. It protected my unit very well. POE.

Thanks for the tips and links. I would like to find a nice hard case. One thing I do is always carry my player in a small plastic bag, sealed. I read here in the Forums somewhere that eliminates condensation when coming in from the cold. I do it also to keep the display unscratched.

Cool :) I live in Canada and i'm toting my MD around on a reg basis in weather up to -35 degree's celcius (not sure what that is in farhenheit if your American) But i just have it inside my jacket, and because of bodyheat alone it never gets cold at all.

If u leave it in the car or something i'd definately let it warm up for at least a good 20 min depending on how cold it is. Its gonna be just like a vehicle, try to make things move when they're frozen solid and somethings gonna give lol.

Ya dude carrying case is been the key to everything from me, from dropping it and not dmging it, 2 no scratches and looking brand new. If it wasnt for my carrying case between a few little falls and dust in the summer i'm sure my MD would be toast by now haha.

GL with the cases. The best ones i found are soft cases that have firm linings. Kinda like not a solid outside shell but one thats really padded. The padding absorbs the cold better and shock then a hard shell.

Peace :)
