linuxpyro
Hello, first of all I am new here, having just found this place the other day. I have used a MiniDisc deck in the past for recording, and like the format a lot.Just recently I picked up a used Sony MZ-R55 on eBay. The intent of this is to record dialog for a movie I am working on. (Basically I have a couple mics running into a small mixer, the line out of which is going to the line in on the MZ-R55.) The unit seems to work fine, and overall I am impressed with it. However, I was hoping someone could help me with something. It seems that whenever the unit detects a large enough gap in the input level while recording it automatically starts a new track. I suppose this behavior was intended to make things like recording an album from say a record player easier. However, I would like to disable this, so that I don't hit the 254-track limit on the disc. I have not had much luck here searching the forums (if it is something that has already come up, please point me in the right direction). I even tried Google, and looked in the unit's manual on Sony's site, but with no luck. Any ideas?Thank you for any insight.

To get into Manual record level mode Pause and Hold the Record button over for two seconds , then you can set Manual levels, using the FFw and REW buttonsIf you wanna part with the 55 , I miss mine , It got a wrong power supply one day and didnt like it (see Below) Edited April 1, 2007 by Guitarfxr

Or would putting it into manual record mode have it not add the markers?I just got the 55 the other day, and I'm still playing with it... So I'm not really willing to part with mine. But check eBay. A440
So basically, I'd have to just pause it and remove the track markers manually? Or would putting it into manual record mode have it not add the markers? This is, unfortunately, one of the stupider "features" Sony built into minidisc. As long as you record through Line-in you're going to get automatic track marks after a few seconds of silence. You can try using Manual and crank up the volume a little higher, in hopes that ambient noise will prevent the unit detecting silence, but then you'll get more noise.....
