installed it for the first time half a year ago, and things werent working out with connectplayer, so i googled it and learned about sonicstage. i dont remember what version i got then, but i remember having some problems but i got it to work. i havent used it for a while now, (cus i had all the music i needed), but now i got a new computer, with a fresh new installation of windows and everything.

just like before, connectplayer wont work, so i tried to get sonicstage onto my comp but i cant get any installation to work! i dont know whats wrong either, i have been looking all over the net for days now :(

i have xp sp2, 1gb ram, amd dualcore 2ghz, nvidia 1600GT card.

heres what happens:

i download an installation (tried about everyone from 3.x - 4.3) and they vary in size from 6xx-9xx kb.

i start it, and it asks me where to install it, and then it starts downloading stuff (really slow) going through all the "downloading this, installing that" etc on the left.

then when its done, if i check the folder where i chose to install it, its plain empty. the program asks me to reboot to finish the installation, but when it boots up again its still nothing. aint got a trace of sonicstage on my comp. not in Add/remove programs, nothing.

i read about many fellas getting error messages, but i get nothing. just the "setup is finished, reboot now" thing, and afterwards there is no trace of ss on my comp.

i've got sufficient space and everything :(

can somebody PLEASE help me? i worked extra for months to get me some portable music but now i cant use it.

Sounds like you're doing everything right.

I have a few suggestions, but they're just shots in the dark. To my knowledge, 3.4 and 4.2 are the best versions, and I definitely wouldn't go back before 3.2 because there are uploading limitations.

One suggestion is to just let SonicStage use its default directory to install in. I once tried having it install elsewhere and had problems.

Also, way way back, SonicStage used to have conflicts with Nvidia drivers. Maybe it still does.

Make sure old SonicStage junk is uninstalled with this FAQ.

You could try a standalone installer instead of the online one from Sony. There's a full 4.0 in Downloads, and a link to Sony's own 4.3 here. (88MB)

Here's a list of 4.2 online installers:

A copy of the 3.4 installation disc that came with the RH1 is here as a 244MB ISO file. You'd need Nero or another ISO program to burn it for use as an install disc.

read about the drivers problem with nvidia just now, ill check those things out, all you wrote about it.

i have just proceeded to clean out my entire registry of every sony related key, folder or string, including all openmg files as well (i dont use openmg for anything else).

thanks alot for the response, i really hope this works out. thanks for your time as well. cheers -oompa

edit: btw, is it better to install connectplayer (wich came with my nw-a3000) or not installing it, just go SS fresh without anything?

SonicStage 4.x includes ConnectPlayer, so I think you can skip that.

You can find more about NW players and software questions at www.atraclife.com .

after waiting for 2 hours for the servers to upload a 30ish mb i get..nothing. again.

in the start menu i got a folder named sonicstage, with only Product Support -personal audio- innit.

in the default folder, Sony i got the OpenMG Jukebox with 2 files innit, and another folder called Personal audio driver, wich sizes 523kb.

in add/remove programs i have the OpenMG secure module 4.6.01 (16,77mb).

no sonicstage. and no errormessages at all, just like always it claims it has made a sucessful installation and just asked me to reboot.

god im really against posting anything but constructive stuff on forums but god, they must have really tried on purpose to make a buggy software here :(

anyone still got any tips for a lost soul? =/

edit: i tried, yet again with another version, 3.4 i think from download.com (simply because that version takes me about 1min to dl instead of 2h like the 4.2v) and tried it at another harddrive (i have two) incase the problem was some sort of conflict with some other programfile or something.

the same thing happens tho, the folder i chose (now on D: instead of the standard one on C:) remains empty throughout the installation.

i watched as i installed it, and it seems normal through the openMG step, taking its time etc, but once it gets to Install->Sonicstage (and the addon) it just pops from 0% to 100% in an instant, and then i "have a successful installation". dunno if this helps to know or not.. i dunno.

it still creates the same folders at the original folder, C:\Programs\Sony and the stuff i mentioned above. it also dumps some crap in the application data and users folders (like it should i guess) but nothing about sonicstage, just some OpenMG stuff and audiodriver stuff.

can't someone just log on here and go "hey, i had the same problem, do this"? :x

well, thanks for any help again. cheers

Is your computer free of viruses?

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

yep, got nothing from trendmicro.

i use autoupdated superspyware and AVGfree. :( its so weird. its like.. its just.. skipping installing just Sonicstage, cus openMG and everything seems to install properly and show up in the add/remove programs tab and everything :| and i have tried several versions of sonicstage, cleaning both the folders and registry in between.

very, so very annoying :|

ok, so i got a hand on a 4.0CP installer wich was download, i thought they might skip some errors because of it downloading and running from a tempfile and here's what happens:

i chose to install OpenGMG, Sonicstage, and Sonicstage addon (i.e no simpleburner, no misc) and apparently this version has some problem with openMG, cus after the first Wizard is finished, it says "The Wizard was interrupted before OpenMG Secure module could be completely installed", so i click finish, and as it enters the installshield process for what i take it is Sonicstage, i get

Error (-5003 : 0x5) please make sure you have finished all other setups and closed all application

Error Code: -5003 : 0x5

Error Information:

>SetupDLL\SetupDLL.cpp (1964)

pAPP:SonicStage

PVENDOR:Sony Corporation

PGUID:A0EB195B-5876-48E6-879D-33D4B2102610

$10.1.0.238

@Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) BT_OTHER 232.64

second time:

@Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) BT_OTHER 12952.24

third time:

$10.1.0.238

@Windows XP Service Pack 2 (2600) BT_OTHER 232.64

and then finally it installs the audiodrivers (successfully i take it, since it seem to place it self properly).

its probably the same stuff that has happened on the other versions as well, but there were no error messages then.

just like with the other try's, i get a folder in the start menu with a link to their supportsite, nothing in Add/Remove programs, and nothing in the folders except personal audio drivers (i used to get openMG as well, but since that didnt work on this installation version i guess thats why theres no folder.)

can this identify my problem in any way? :|

aerrgahhgh!.

so i found the sollution after checking up the same problem some other fella had when installing some other program.

now its whining about openMG secure module, and it gets stuck looking for some file and when i click finish it loops back to looking for that file. i remember reading something about it on the forums, so ill go check it out now, (hopefully this does not prevent me from finally using my mp3 player!! arrgh) but here's the sollution if this occurs on anyone elses machine:

if you install from a downloader and you dont get any sonicstage installed even though it claims to sucessfully install it, or if you get the same error message 3 (or so) times during the install, Error (-5003 : 0x5) please make sure you have finished all other setups and closed applications: heres what to do:

the problem is with the installshield.

what you need to do is to find your installshield catalogue (usually in c:\program files\common files, remember to show hidden files!) and simply rename it to InstallshieldOLD or something. then it will create a new folder and the setup will be sucessfull.

thanks to you mates who tried to help me out, i appriceate your effort and time. (and sorry for unintentionally bumping my own thread) cheers \o
