Hi.

I wonder if you can help me.

Actually, I record the mp3 sources files (in several compression modes 128kbs, 192kbs. 256kbs, 320kbs. etc) from the PC to minidisc in atrac3plus 256 kbs (all of theirs). But the hard disk space grow and I'm looking the perfect conversion from mp3 to atrac3plus without loose quality.

Then, What is the correspondance?. Mp3 128 kbs, for example, can be converted to atrac3plus 128 kbs without loose the quality of the original file sound?.

Any idea?.

Thank you in advanced!.

To retain the same quality of the the original CD you need to convert from CD > PCM

All lossy compression formats MP3/ATRAC lose quality.

But most people only hear the loss at very low bitrates say under 192kps. Especially if you don't have good earphones and equipment.

Converting from one lossy format to another is always worse. Say 192kps MP3 to 352kps ATRAC is worse than the original 192kps MP3.

Only you can decide what bitrate you hear as the same as the CD. For me its 192kps and higher. For other people its 320kps.

And ATRAC3plus@128k does not work with minidisc (yet?).

I convert MP3s (not that I've got a lot of them, but those that I've got only exist as MP3s - no CDs or any other tangible media with this music were ever released) to ATRAC3plus@192 (my main bitrate for almost all transfers). Quite happy with the result. Even using really good equipment.

Bear in mind that it is not necessary to keep the Atrac3 files on the PC after you transfer to MiniDisc (there is an option for this in SoinicStage). The only reason to keep the converted Atrac3 files is so that future transfers of the same track are quicker. But it costs you in hard disk space.
