andrew7724
hi, I have been searching for a portable device that can record some piano music for a while.Eventually I found minidiscs. several people from our school told me that they have amazing recording quality, so I'm seriously consider buying one.I only know sony MDs, I actually don't really know any other brands.I own a Mac, and I heard that the sony RH1 have "some" mac compatibility, therefore my choice narrows down to this one.however I notice that RH1 doesn't have a mic. you can attach a mic ( which I have got one that I can borrow from school) but i feel that kind of defeats the purpose of portable recording.are there any other MDs out there that can record with great quality but has an internal mic?Recording is what I'll be using only for the MD, so does that suit me? or should I get something else? cause they are quite expensive! thanks for the help! Hey Andrew , if you dont need stereo recording The MZ-B10 will work fine , but it doesnt upload,(no USB ) Panasonic has a Stereo version from about 300 dollars , it also is not USB , but for set and forget it works. The Idea of portable recording, doesnt just mean ALL built in There are a multitude of Small Stereo mike which you can clip to your music Stand,( I teach music) The benefit of MD is unlike an MP3 recorder , if you need more space , just put a new disc in. and the Sound quality is way better , which means now it becomes a music player, recorder, archiver, etc. There is an old saying " Speed costs ,.....How fast do you want to go?" there are a plethora of recording devices out there, each one with their own quirks. MD has its quirks as well. If you dont want to joing the MD bandwagon so to speak where we end up with huge collections of music , just because we can record from ANY SOURCE WE WANT to. well then maybe MD isnt what you want . The Roland R-09 has built in stereo mics , runs on AA batteries, and sounds ok , will upload to your Mac, but I like my RH1 , and would be happy to help you set it up. Just the Tangible, Tactile , undamagable exept by some extreme means aspect of the MD disc itself is very likable. Here is the RH1 and a AT-822 recording a Live Taiko drum group.http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?s=&am...st&p=118471 Here is the Sony MZ B10 , recording a School Group , http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?s=&am...st&p=118573 To get it into the computer( I am also on a Mac) I just recorded to the line input from the unit , a little slow , but the results are workable. Gaikokujin nandeskedo, ryoho shaberimasu ja! I am glad you like . I Have , The Microtrack 24/96, Have used the Roland R1 (Bought it , and took it back two days later) The R-09 has problems on every forum i have read, etc etc etc ,...I have G.A.S. youll learn what that is.LOL The MD is always what I end up grabbing , Almost AWAYS , An if you get the RH1 make sure to install MD Transfer vers 2.0 first dont even bother wit what is on the CD , download Version 2. Record in HiMD Disc Mode and whatever you record will upload just fine, HiLP,HiSP,or PCM , if you record in regular MD mode it wont let you upload.( It is nice that there are BOTH modes , not an Inconvenience) If you wanted to make a copy of something for someone who does NOT have HiMD you record in standard MD mode and it will play on their MD Player ,Car, Home or otherwise.
