Hi all,

I am currently bidding on teh Sony N707 MD on ebay, but the software doesn't come with the item. I have a version of sonic stage (I can't find the version number on the properties option), but i also have adobe audition 1.5. Deos anyone know if this minidisc is compatible with adobe audition? It's far superior to sonicstage, but I've never had to upload from a MD straight onto my computer before.

Anybody know?!

Thanks

NetMD models like the N707 cannot upload at all. The digital transfer is limited in one direction (PC to MD). You would have to do a lossy real time copy from the MD's headphone output to the line-in of your soundcard (with Audition or any other recording program). If you already have a collection of MDs which you want to transfer to the PC, the RH1 would be your best option (only unit able to upload legacy recordings). If you want to make new recordings and upload these, any HiMD with mic- and line input would be suited and will do the transfer via SonicStage. Audition is an editing program and cannot be used for uploading or control of any MD portable.

Thanks so much - was outbid on ebay, probably a good thing! In the college studio, we were able to play a mindisc while in the record mode of adobe audition and it used to create the track in real time. I guess the minidisc isn't compatible in this case. Thanks again

You can, of course, copy in real time from any MD's headphone output, but Hi-MD would give you an identical copy, faster than real time via USB. If you're looking for the lowest price, have the patience and don't mind some quality loss, any MD with the necessary analog inputs will work for you as a recorder. What do you want to use it for (music/speech recording, etc.?

Just to restate what GM said in a slightly different way, every minidisc unit is "compatible" with Audition because you are simply recording in real time out of the headphone jack. The MZ-N707 would have worked the same as whatever unit you were using at the studio.

But technology has advanced, so that now it is possible to directly upload minidisc recordings from Hi-MD units, as computer files rather than realtime analog recordings.
