I'm making optical recordings from my computer to my M200. I have placed markers in a wav file, and I would like to know if it's possible for those markers to be transferred to the MD? Are there particular types of markers that will transfer via optical?

Generally the optical out of the computer is a constant out , whenever there is an audio signal present , so even if there is a mark but no break in the audio signal it will not transfer . It works diferently from a Standalone cd player in which the CD player WILL present the marks and will be transfered accordingly . Even on My Macbook the Optical out is a constant so it doesnt transfer text or Track marks .

Well the copy I made for you, Guitarfxr, in true SP with the RH1 was made via optical out of the PC from a MD in Hi-SP playing through SonicStage, and it kept the track marks just fine. B)

Then SS must have carried the marks , itself . that is cool to know , Just whenever I have run from audio editors or even from a cd plying on the Computer to the optical out the RH1 did not register the track marks . I thought it odd . But it would from a standalone cd player .

Email me you particular musical interest's I will see what I have for you .

But the audio files where on MD playing through SS, not on HDD. MD playback through SS isn't gapless. Hence the marks, detected by silence. So it ain't bit-accurate, but I got the music copied easily. It wouldn't be suitable for when gapless is required.

Wait a minute , Are you saying that you had the MD connected to the Computer, Playing thru the soundcard and recording to another MD ?

You kinda have me confused here dude. ?????

Why not just run a cable from MD to MD ?

I haven't added an optical out to my Hi-MD deck yet, so that's the only way. Otherwise, I have to upload the MD to SS, and download to MD again, resulting in fake SP. At least it's optical, and the soundcard of my Asus PC is more than decent.

AHHHHH gotcha , The Analouge out carries a small bias voltage spike at the marks If you ever watch the displays of MD to MD trnsfer as long as there is an audible space the track marks will coinside almost exactly . I have watched this many times , and that is the only conclusion I could come to , ....if there was no audible space where the track mark occurs , it doesnt get it because the Audio is larger than the spike .

I copied Blackfoot , the first Albumn "Strikes" for one of my guitar students today , From the Kenwood DMC-F5R , headphone out to he MZ-R50 line in . The only mark it missed was between track 8 and 9 where the audio doesnt quite drop out .

All the rest were exactly where they were supposed to be.

I used the Bboost on the Kenwood to beef it just a little , .....Japanese guy learning some good Southern Rock ..Yeah !!!
