Hello everybody,

I have recently come across a very old Sony MZ-R3 portable MD recorder/player and was trying to get it to work.

What I know about it is that it has been very little used since new and for various reasons has been stored in a normal, heated house (ie not a damp garage etc) most of its life.

It has not been used for approx 5 years at least.

It worked fine when it was last put away.

I want to get it going because with it is also a lot of music stored in MD format (which has equally been stored in decent conditions).

So I put a couple of brand new duracells in it and the battery level is displayed as expected.

I insert a pre-recorded disc and hit play, after 30 seconds or so of whirring noises (EDIT: from the workings of the unit, not through the headphones) I get "DISC ERROR".

I tried to play a head-cleaner disc and got the same thing.

Do you have any ideas how I might jump-start it into life or is it a lost cause?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Try this

Also Sony might be able to repair the unit for you.
