Music source - import . . . music files / folder

Hi,

I'm hoping someone might have the answer to the above question?

The details -

I have my music stored on an external hard drive (Seagate 100GB)

I went to import a few compilation albums to SS-3.4 so i went to 'music source' then 'import folder' and navigated to the correct albums, I checked the box beside the albums I wanted importing and it did that ok.

The problem is that SS hasn't reconised them as compilations, so it has each artist as a different album, not at all good!

I know that if I import the compilation straight from the cd I need to check the "compilation" box so that the album behaves in the way it should. Is there a way of getting SS to import compilation albums correctly, if they are not coming from the cd itself?

Thanks :)

I guess the simplest way to do it would be to retag (using a mass-tagging program such as MP3 Tag Tools) the artist field of every file and change it to VA or something. That way SS would list the album under VA as you browse through the artists.

I don't tend to listen to too many compilations, so when I want to transfer one I switch SS to all tracks view, get it to search by album and then just type in the beginning of the name of the compilation album, so only that album comes up. Sadly that's about the most hassle-free way to do it.
