transferring from device to PC

Question

Having left all original copies of my music overseas, I was not eager to update my A3000's firmware after Sony's not so encouraging disclaimer.

I opened my walkman as an external drive and to my surprise, after a bit of searching I discovered all my music was on there under OMGAUDIO. The music files are named with numbers but when imported into CONNECT displayed all my original tags. They are certainly playable.

Am I the first one to discover this and could there possibly be any unwanted trouble from doing this?

Schizo.Rabby,

Whether it is mp3 files or AtracFiles when these files are transffered to a network walkman they are first wrapped in some(openMg) Drm(Imposed by Sony ) then they are transffered.Just to prevent us exchanging the music via our network walkman .You can`t run your mp3`s just by copying back from your network walkman.

Use GYm1.12 to extract your mp3`s (ony mp3 no atrac)(See software forum)

Actually, just copying the OMG files from the device back to the PC helped me save my OMG files after SonicStage 3.3 told me initialize my HD1 a few months ago.

I just transferred the files through Windows Explorer in a new folder I created on my PC hard drive. I initialized the HD1, then transferred the tracks back onto it. I've also transferred the tracks to other ATRAC devices and so far have encountered no problem with playback.

The files had originally been deleted from the PC, but I suspect SonicStage remembered something of them so they had no playback problems.

I have not however tried importing the tracks to another PC. I don't know if that would work.
