deadwing
Here's the situation- I had a failing hard drive so I backed up everything I wanted to keep onto DVD - this included my library of Hi-MD recordings I'd made over a couple of years. I've needed to go back to one of these and, using Sound Forge, imported the file I want but then when I try to do 'anything' with it, I get some 'digital rights' message on my screen telling me I can't do anything with the file??? So, am I unable to do anything at all with these files? Luckily I've got WAV files stored of most of these but there is one where the wav file was corrupt and need to go back to the source recording
A440
You may be out of luck with those files since you now have a new installation of Sonic Stage. If you used the Backup Tool, you may be able to get their rights restored by importing the backup into SonicStage, which will connect to some mysterious internet site and verify the rights. But if you just copied them as files, probably not.But you can remove digital rights garbage from all of your uploaded SonicStage recordings that you make in the future. Use the File Conversion Tool under Tools. It will read the database, and then you'll see how long the conversion will take and a checkbox for copy protection. Uncheck the checkbox for copy protetion (as if ANYONE would want to add copy protection...). Then it will remove the copy protection from all of the .oma files and they will be readable by any SonicStage. You could back up the converted files just by burning them onto discs. deadwing
See the second link in my signature. So, I assume the recordings I've already backed up to DVD are totally useless then?
A440
If you've already tried to open them with SonicStage as well as SoundForge, and you're getting the rights message, I'm afraid the backups are useless. Were they uploaded with a version after (I think) 3.2? If you still have the discs, you could upload them again. Just make sure they weren't uploaded with 3.0, since Sonicstage--any version, new or old--will not only not upload those tracks but will also wipe the files off the discs without warning. Save those DVD backups anyway, though. Since Sony is phasing out ATRAC, it may someday throw in the towel and provide the encryption keys. Wouldn't that be a nice parting gesture.... deadwing
No, I don't have the original discs- I only work with 2 Hi-MD's as I only use the recorder for live music - get home from a show, transfer to my HDD then erase the disc for the next use... What an absolute pain..talk about overkill!!! I'll just keep the DVD in the hope then...but won't hold my breath
