Hi I'm in desperate need of help. I purchased a Sony Network walkman NW-E405 yesterday, I've installed the software (version 3.0) but when I connect my MP3 player to the pc the software does not see it. I've tried installing the new version 3.4 but have the same problem.

Please can anyone help before I take it back as I've been up for hours last night installing and unistalling it and other versions from Sonys website.

Many Thanks

I shall give the below a try as I really want it to work. How can I check if I have service pack 2, sorry I've not had my PC very long so I'm really struggling with this. I do have Windows XP but don't know how to restore my computer using System restore.

I'll work my way through and see how I do tonight / tomorrow.

Again many thanks,

I'm still having loads of problems. I've done a system re-store and checked that I do have service pack 2 which all went ok. I tried to download the driver but it said it was all ready on my system so I saved it to my hard drvie. I also downloaded the firmware.

This is where the problems are I still can't see the player via internet explorer, but when I plug it in to the USB port microsoft can see it and starts a install wizard the only problem is it cant find the software needed in the sony driver folder or the new driver that I downloaded. I tried running the firmware but it cant see the player.

Please can you let me know if you have any more advice.

Many Thanks

Do youbhav Windows Media player ?Which version O will recommened WMP10 .But If you install this yuo again need toreinstall your SonicStage

You able to see your player when it is connected to your computer via Windows Explorer but SonicStage is unable to detect it ?right

use this

I `m not sure this will work or not but it seems to me that there is some incompatibility issue here or some problem with your USB.

Or Exchange your E405 with a new one.

Your problem seems to be similar see this post .

Thanks again Sturge I can't see the player via Windows Explorer and SonicStage is unable to detect it. The USB port picks it up ok as it brings up an install wizard, but the install wizard can't find the software it needs.

I'm going to send it back but I may try a different brand of player like an Ipod or creative Zen.

Have you tried to call tech support? I don't mean to sound funny, I know that Sony has gotten a bad rap for their phone support. My friend was having a issue with his Sony PC. Believing like most of us, that I could figure out the issue I was hesitant in calling. But I did. I called and the issue was fixed very quickly.

They would be able to isolate the issue. Whether it is the PC, USB ports, USB cable, the device itself.

Just a thought.

I sent Sony an e-mail before I added this topic. They have just got back to me and asked a few questions so I'll see what they say before I send it back.

Can you please share with us what they have asked you ??

I am experiecing the same problems with the E-407, the problem seems to be with sonic stage more then anything else. updating to version 3.4 and doing several other thing will eventually let sonic stage recognizes it but then an error messege saying that i must reformat and delete all files.....which i can't seem to do becuase I need to do that through sonic stage.

This problem has been faced by many people .So in order to use SonicStage again you will need to Format your E407 from the Main Menu (Don`t format your player using Winodws Explorer ).

Hi Sturge

This is the questions they asked me

To enable us to investigate the problem you are experiencing with your

NW-E405 and the supplied Sonic Stage software we need some more

information.

Therefore please can you do the following and advise accordingly;

* Connect the NW-E405 to your computer.

* Please can you let us know what is displayed on the NW-E405's LCD

screen.

* Click on the [start] button and select [My Computer].

* Please can you let us know which drives (including drive letters)

are shown in this window. If the removable disk associated with the

NW-E405

is displayed please can you double click on it and let us know what is

shown

in the window that opens. Then close this window.

* Right click on [My Computer]

* Click on [Properties]

* Click on the [Device Manager] button

* Go to the heading [Disk Drives] and click on the [+]. A list of

devices will drop down, please can you let us know which devices are

shown.

* Go to the heading [Other] or [Other devices] and click on the [+].

A list of devices will drop down, please can you let us know which

devices

are shown.

* Go to the heading [storage Volumes] and click on the [+]. A list of

devices will drop down, please can you let us know which devices are

shown.

* Go to the heading [universal Serial Bus Controllers] and click on

the [+]. A list of devices will drop down, please can you let us know

which

devices are shown.

* Close the [Device Manager] window.

* Launch the Sonic Stage software.

* Rest your mouse pointer over the [Transfer] button. Please can you

let us know which options are shown in the list that drops down.

I replied with the correct answers and they came back a few days later with the below but by then I'd sent the MP3 player back and made a few comments about there device / software!

I can only advise that you firstly try the NW-E405 in another port

preferably on the back of your machine and then re-try. If you still

receive

the same Device Manager information as before then please follow the

below

and advise accordingly:

* Connect the NW-E405

* Go into [Device Manager].

* Go to the heading [Other/Other Devices] and click on the [+].

* Double click on [Network Walkman]. Click on the [uninstall] button.

Click [Ok] to confirm device removal.

* Re-Start your computer with the NW-E405 connected and turned ON

* Windows should detect new hardware and automatically install the

correct drivers for the NW-E405

* Re-try the Walkman and advise accordingly?

I must say the advice you gave me was a lot more helpful than Sony, many thanks fo your help
