I have an MD-R900, and I just put in a brand new Ni-MH battery into it- the player did not function. So then I tried to charge it with my AC adapter, and the charge symbol flashed briefly and then the display screen went blank. This happened every subsequent time that I pressed the charge button. The same thing happened with an older Ni-MH battery. But when I inserted a Ni-Cd battery, it charged perfectly fine. Does anyone know why I can't use this brand new NI-MH battery in my player?

I assume you are using an NH-14WM cell. Many of these are actually fakes, the market is flooded with them. I once bought four of them from one of those fly-by-night discount etailers, they didn't last more than a few months before they could not even be charged. My suggestion is for you to try a reputable dealer that would be selling genuine Sony gumsticks, such as Audio Cubes and MiniDisco.

Many say the GB-branded gums are good, too.
