I currently have a Sony MZ-R2 that I got in 1995, it still plays and records great(though on it's second optical block). I do worry it's going to die it's already lost some of the pixels on the display. I am glad sony used a Li-Ion battery as mine still works well after all these years.

What I'd like is a decent looking inexpensive portable player/recorder. which models are decent and which ones should be avoided?

Questions

  1. Do you wish to be able to upload to the computer ?
  2. Does it need to have LP mode or is SP ok with you ?
  3. Do you wish to have HiMD capability or not ?
  4. Do you wish to use Microphones , and have Recording level control on the Fly rather than Pause and Record adjustment, unpause ?
  5. DO you want AA capacity , or Lion battery , or NMHD , ?
Good set of basic questions , will narrow the field of what your looking for .

Take a little time to get some ideas , then we can get you a recorder that fits what you need!

:hi:

PS, ...........An R2 , still in use ........... another testament , to the Craftsmanship that went into the MD's original design !

I would say bang for buck your best bet would be an NH-700 or 800, will still do SP if need, and will bring you to a new level. If you really want to get going get the RH1 or M200. You can check our classified to see what some of us have for sale, or look through ebay, amazon, etc.

Good luck

Bob
