raintheory
Well Iwas checking out the theatre of the school I work at, and they have two(!) MDS-E12 Pro MiniDisc recorders AND NO MINIDISCS or USE FOR THEM...!!!Anyway, I am finding out if I am now the proud owner of two MDS-E12 Pro Decks: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MDS-E12.htmlIf so, they will make a welcome addition to my home studio... I used to have (and sorely miss) the MDS-E10. Anyway, I threw a disc in one of the two decks before leaving today, and it kept giving a read error and spitting it back out. The disc is fine, I'll maybe open it up tomorrow to look inside.. Hopefully the other one (I haven't tried it yet) works better.Wish me luck! I was reading up a bit on these, and if I can get both working I can hook them together in a relay setup.. Hope the read error is an easy fix.Let us know how it works outBob
raintheory
Well the second of the two decks seems to work fine. A few questions though for those that might be knowledgeable:Aside from the wired (and IR) remotes, and PS2 port for titling, these decks have parallel and serial ports on the back... The manual says what pins to what, but does anyone know of any software I could use (windows and/or mac or linux) to send specific signals via serial or parallel? raintheory
I'm not sure, here are the two pages of the manual devoted to the functionality:The "RS-232C" Connection looks like the Serial connector, and is a "D-Sub 9-Pin Male" connector. I do have a MIDI connector for my E-MU-1616M that would fit the parallel connector (which looks like a female serial connector), as well as some older gameport MIDI connectors that I could try. Would definitely be cool either way. If I get either working I'll definitely add it to your post here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=20544 Edited March 14, 2008 by raintheory
Strungup
That would be VERY coolpins 1-5 , ground to pin 6 , and use momentary contacts for switches , ........... You can build this outboard controller VERY easy , heck it would only take me half a day .The parallel port is for a Hardwired external controller , pins 7-9 are also grounded to 6 , but are indicators for the remote (Led's ) Edited March 14, 2008 by Guitarfxr
raintheory
Interesting... if I attempt to build a DIY controller I may enlist your assistance!!! Heres something cool, the remote control for my MXD-D40 works for the MDS-E12!
