kino170878
How easy is it to replace a recording head on portables? I guess every portable one day is going to be facing this problem.
Superbaldguy
Sadly, it's not economical to do so.The ribbon connector could also be the culprit as these tend to come undone after a few years of use, you may have better luck trying to solder that together. ILoveMinidisc
The problem still persist but i can record diskIf i start record an album of 12 Songs after recording i get Blank disc(after MD has been removed and reinserted into the unit)BUt then if I just transfer one song then remove the Md it will play that song fine I then can drag the rest of the songs of the album to the MD that had the one songand it will then transfer fine and workCould this has something to do with the "Start" and "END" recording of a MD? raintheory
Can you record via line and/or mic-in?If so, then it's a software issue (something with SonicStage and/or drivers), if the same thing happens, it's an issue with hardware (ribbon cable / recording head).Edit if it's hardware, 99% of the time it's the actual ribbon cable, so a cleaning disc won't help (I'm not reven sure if those clean the recording heads anyway). There is a thread around here somewhere detailing how to repair the ribbon cable... I'll see if I can find it. Edited July 18, 2008 by raintheory

raintheory
The ribbon cable is a (very) small ribbon-shaped connector inside the unit itself... It connects the record/overwrite magneto head to the main board. It is ribbon shaped to provide flexibility as it needs to be able to move. The USB cable could very well be the culprit, fortunately they are a standard size (Mini- so you should be able to find one just about anywhere that sells USB cables. raintheory
BTW, here is the thread pertaining to the ribbon cable repair, if that does seem to be the problem:http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=4712
