Hi all,

Just managed to get a beat up MZ-R30 off eBay which sounds great. Not tried recording live with it yet. I was holding out for an Mz-R50 as I heard off this forum it doesn't overload so easily when recording live-they look so similar I wonder if they use the same internal components. Anyone know?

Also what about the MZ-R37?

Anyone who has used these units please comment on their sonic worth too

Thanks

All of these older units sound superior to the newer ones. Probably has something to due with the size, which means more hardware and circuitry.

I have the R37 which takes two AA bateries inside the unit itself. The sound to this day beats all of the newer models of minidisc players.

Edit - I should add the superior sound for the older units is on playback. Recording wise it is probably more in favour of the newer models, because the version of Atrac compression has progressed through the years.

The R50 was the Pinnacle , Sony did it right with one exception Live Rec level control , The Mic preamp in the R50 is much nicer than any of the others , I have had all of them , I still have the R50 .
