aafuss
The Sony D-181 is a basic Discman model from 1998.This Discman model wasn't sold in the US-only in Europe/Asia/Australia. The design of the D-181 is typical of 1997-1998 Discman models with a display and buttons around the front which has some similarities to D-E301.It's finished in a classic Discman two-tone color-silver and black and has a good feel to it-even though it's constructed out of plastic. A small window on the top lets you see the CD spinning-a nice touch. There are thirteen controls on the D-181 and are:hold, play mode,AVLS,repeat/enter,previous,next,stop, play/pause,open.The D-181's display can show the track number/time elapsed, sound mode, playback mode, battery status and repeat. The D-181 has no ESP-so it's prone to skipping and is best to use the D-181 on a flat surface.AVLS (volume limiting) is present and its switch is on the botto-a very good design choice. Playback modes are:repeat, shuffle, intro PGM,RMS (program),1.Repeat playback mode is via the REPEAT/ENTER button, wheras the others are selected using PLAY MODE. Sound presets are:GRV MB (AMEGBASS)The first setting on the D-181 can be found on other models:eg D-E700 series and enhances the sound better than the MB (MEGA BASS) preset.MEGA BASS is present as well-only one stage.Sound quality is very nice-using MDR-24 headphones, the sound was reproduced quite well on GRV (Groove)Line-outYes, the D-181 has a line-out jack at the rearRemotesNo-there is no combo headphone/remote jack.
