I'm having some problems with a MZ-EP11 that I just purchased. It will playback older discs (I imagine ATRAC4.0 from reading the specs on this site) but no newer discs (not HI-MD). is there a way to still convert to ATRAC4.0 or allow playback on this deck of newer discs?

Wow, this was actually the first MD player I had. I purchased it as a "bundle" with an MDS-JE520 deck back in 1998.

To answer your question, the Atrac version makes absolutely no difference. Older units can actually play any version of SP made on the newer decks.

The MZ-EP11 is an SP only unit. It won't play LP2 or LP4. Are you trying to play those modes?

Thnx a lot for your fast response I appreciate it. I was having the same prob with my MZ-E3 but formatting to sp worked out fine for both. Just having some fun blowing peoples minds with legacy technology at school most have never seen an MD player. I've been using them for years and find it hard to believe it never got big, even with sonicstage, because now we have itunes and everyone digs that crap. All the mp3 players sound god awful in comparison, especially when I throw a little morphine on sp in my NH1. Gonna grab the M200 this week, god its beautiful I want to have it's children
