classic707
I was told that the Sony MDS-JE330 can't play minidiscs recorded in Sonic Stage even in SP mode. Is this true? I know it is an odd question but I just bought this deck on e-Bay.
KJ_Palmer
The JE330 can play MDs transferred in SP compatibilty mode from Sonicstage - that's the whole point of having this mode. The quality won't be true SP though, the best you'll get is something more like LP2 quality, depending on the bitrate of the tracks in SS. classic707
That's what I thought; it didn't make sense to me either but I wanted to ask anyway. Thank you.
Juan22
...Meaning the best soundquality for SP can only come from recordings of ATRAC ADVANCED LOSSLESS at 352 kbps? Wouldnt WAV (1411) be the best? no compression? Edited February 28, 2009 by Juan22
KJ_Palmer
Well yes, Wav/PCM to SP is best, but you can't get true SP from Sonicstage. The SP compatibility transfer from SS only gives (at best) LP2 quality in an SP 'wrapper'. To get true SP (which is still compressed - 292kbps) you need to actually record in real time on the unit via an optical (or analogue line) output. Or there are some CD/MD decks that can transfer at faster speeds.
Juan22
Thanks, Ive been waiting for an answer but the forum was bloqued.I dont have a deck, but I do have a discman. I suppose the best quality I can get is to connect line out to line in and record...the only problem is making track marks for those songs who dont end with a space of silence but continue the sound onto the next one...but thats nothing mayor to worry about.thanks!
