Agreed that the RH710 is a nice little unit, a bit of an unsung hero really. Picked up a couple of them cheaply (~£30) a couple of years back when Dixons/Currys in London where obviously having a bit of a clear out of their 'obsolete' stock...

Haven't used them much as I think I'll keep them in cold storage for a later time. But with the hack applied they seem to have a pleasant, warm sound (to my ears) typical of 2nd gen Hi-MD units. Nice and inoffensive, quite well made too. Nice that it takes an AA battery. Definitely a keeper if you plan to stay with the format.

Not tried it with 48kbps files, does anything sound good at that bitrate?

Thanks for the thoughts. That was a good price Barock - wish I had been more active looking for MD a year or two ago...

Whaty service mode code did you use?

Concerning 48k, I would never use that, but as someone gave me the disks pre-recorded I have been listening to them. Not very good at all, and why it was even an option as a bitrate I cannot understand.

I own two of them, both bought in 2007 on eBay, one I bought from a UK-based pawn shop for 80 USD, and it came with (supplied) MDR-E808LP earphones and the English user manual, as well as a deadstock one, NIB, complete for about 200 USD, also from the UK, both in black.

I then applied the volume hack on both, and also bought 2 RM-MC60 remotes with included free MDR-E808SP earbuds in the same deal (from MiniDisc Access), and also 2 RM-MC55ELK LCD remotes (one on eBay and one from a former member of the old MDCF) and 2 pairs of MDR-EX85SL IEM's as well (both IEM's were bought from eBay user "buyfromjapan"), and yes, they too, are all black as well.

The players have some very minor scuff marks (on the glossy surface) but are well stored in padded cases as I speak, one of them (the used one) is used with my all-gloss/matte black set of Rollerblade inline skate gear, hence why I don't use my other players with this specific setup.

A question for 710 owners please. How do you make them record? I keep getting a 'no record' symbol when using optical line in from another deck. I was using Non-Hi-MD mode, synchro record on and record set to 'on'. It just will not start. I used my old MZ-R30 in the end and that worjed straight away.

It may be something I am doing wrong, but I cannot make it start.

Thanks in advance, Ian

Hello All,

I acquired a unit called an MZ-DH710. It is a player, up-loader and down-loader only. Mine is still in is clam shell package.

Has anyone seen one of these before? It's not listed in the Equipment Browser section at MD.org. It come with a remote which seems strange for a portable player and I can't tell if it even could accept a remote because the port for the headphones has a piece of paper or some such covering the area. Anyone know this machine?

-James
