KJ_Palmer
MX550 are definitely better in many ways, I would say, though it depends on your listening habits. The 500s are brighter, easier to drive being more sensitive, and have lower impedence, and so go quite a bit louder than the 500's. This is quite important with Sony gear, which genrally have quite a weak output strength...The MX500 sound darker and more bassy, though there are probably better earphones out there if you like rock/pop with a lot of bass. The MX550 are more suited to jazz/classical etc, but sound very good with popular music too. Having tried both, the MX550 wins hands down any day.. bogon07
Have some MX500 for my laptop mainly because of their volume control. They have a reasonably good sound but are not the most comfortable earphones around and easily fall out. The standard Sony earphones are more comfortable but don't seem to sound as good.I saw a review where the MX550 have a superior sound to MX500 and are likened to the CX300 without the sound isolation aspects.
