Per the post, the encryption seems to have been reverse-engineered (haw, haw), rather than leaked from the source.

Yes, it can and will be abused, but the potential for fair use also exists. (Got an old monitor with HDMI or DVI that won't accept the newest version of the standard?). Glad it happened right after content providers got allowed to turn off the component video outs of YOUR hardware if they decide so.
