Before I start this post I'll state my affiliations to Sony so that cynics can put their own interpretation on my statements - my agency does A LOT of work for Sony Europe. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that my income depends on Sony to a great extent.
I was one of the first UK buyers of NW-A3000 and, as such, one of the first people to experience the nightmare that was Sony Connect Player 1.0. I bought it on the first weekend it was in the shops and I was on the phone to my contacts at Sony the following Monday to tell them there were big problems with the software.
Big wheels turn slowly and so it took until last week to properly address the problems within Connect Player by effectively replacing it with a new, better version of SonicStage.
I know it's difficult for many people to believe, but my Sony Connect problems were resolved with the second update - I could rip & transfer music to my NW-A3000 easily & quickly. I have no doubt that a lot of other users were still experiencing problems but I was pretty satisfied.
SonicStage CP 4.0 moves me from pretty satisfied to very happy. For me the software is better in so many ways that I am actually enthusiastic about my NW-A3000.
I'm away from home on a business trip but before I left I was able to rip a few CDs, change the ID3 (or whatever the ATRAC equivalent is) tags on a number of compilations so that they appear correctly in my library and tinker about with Artist Link to associate loads of groups with each other. The Dynamic Playlists function is also pretty good (although I'm not sure if it automagically updates itself each time I connect the player or I have to refresh it myself).
I updated my NW-A3000 to the latest firmware (3.0). I agree with other users that there is more delay between button presses and the action taking place - so much so that on many occasions I have been repeatedly hitting a button to make it react.
I find it incredible that I like a version of SonicStage, so long the deserved whipping boy of Sony software, so much that it's worth of merit.
To summarise (at the risk of approbation from Sony as I'm sure they know who I am) - shame on you for releasing Connect Player 1.0 but well done for correcting things quickly (in corporate time frames) with SonicStage CP 4.
