McCol
Used minidiscs over the years until around 4 years ago when I sold my last unit. This week I've decided to return, just bought a used but in excellent condition RH1 which should be here tomorrow. Not entirely sure why I keep getting drawn back, I've got a very good high end MP3 player but I think I miss the house sound of sony minidiscs. Also want to start recording gigs and from what I gather MD is still a good option for this.
Azureal
Welcome back McCol! The RH1 is a great unit. You can find many good deals on auction sites and as some report here at various local sales, etc. You can be back up and running full tilt in no time! McCol
Biggest problem I can see is getting hold of 1gb discs. Seem to go for a small fortune on ebay and Amazon etc.
Azureal
Standard MDs work fine and are still available for a pretty good price. I agree that Hi-MD media costs are crazy ... Not at all worth it in my mind. If you are looking for the best sound, I personally suggest you try real-time SP recording, you only get 80 minutes per disc but I suggest the sound quality is superior to Hi-SP. It's worth a try to see what you think. Not to suggest I have no Hi-SP on disk, I do and it is nice to be able to fit several albums on a single standard MD ...
