Did I damage the NW-E005F (Battery problem)?

Question

I recently purchased a NW-E005F player, and as instructed I let it charge up at the beginning. However afterwards I proceeded to leave it alone for the next couple of days, roughly 3-4 days.

Now whenever I charge up the battery it shows that the device is full ~ however under 20 minutes of running the player switched into Low Battery and ceases to function.

Have I somehow damaged the device, and if so is there a way that I would be able to solve the problem myself or am I likely going to see a technician about it.

Excuse my beginnner questions.

A similar thing happened with my A-608 which I purchased in late March 2006. After conditioning the battery, I charged the battery completely, and barely used it, then at the end of the day the battery lost charge to less than 50% while not playing anything. This never happened with my E-407 so I just returned it to Best Buy and got my money back.
