3V power adapter requirements

Hi all!

(First time poster.) I recently unearthed my old MZ-RH10 (complete with the now-dead screen, of course). I've been enjoying playing around with it (there's just something about Minidiscs, isn't there?), but I've run into a small snag: the yellow plastic insert in the Sony 3V power adapter's barrel plug came loose and stuck itself in the RH10's 3V input. I did manage to extract it from the RH10, but I broke the insert in the process. So, I'm faced with a couple of options:

  • I have another Sony 3V power adapter, but it's for an older MD player and it's only 0.5A, whereas the broken one output 1A
  • I can replace the barrel connector on the broken adapter if a replacement part can be found
  • I can replace the broken adapter, either with the same unit or with a generic

Can anyone suggest what my best bet would be? Will 0.5A be enough to power the RH10 (playback only, and no charging)? If not, does anyone know what size of barrel connector I need to replace the one on the 1A adapter? Finally, if outright replacement is necessary, is it worth tracking down an official power adapter or will any 3V adapter with the correct sized plug do?

Hi Russ,

Welcome to the forum.  The older adapter should be absolutely fine to power the MZ-RH10 for playing, recording or charging so a replacement isn't necessary.  I use the older power supplies on newer units on a regular basis without any issue.

I also have an RH10 which also has the screen issue which is a shame, but otherwise it is an absolutely fantastic unit.
